Unacceptable. Shame on you, MiniLuxe.. I am SO disappointed with the service (or lack thereof) that I received at this salon. I am giving this place 1 star because I can't give them a 0. My friend and I came for our SCHEDULED manicures at around 2:10pm. Hers was at 2:15pm and mine was at 2:30pm. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist and checked in. I gave her my name, and they told me that I was all set. I picked my color and waited patiently. The place seemed very hectic, but they were able to get my friend in 5 minutes after her scheduled time and told me it would only be a couple of minutes for me. I waited and waited, until it was 2:45pm, and decided to check back with the receptionist. I told her I had arrived and checked in over 15 mins ago. She asked me my name again, looked at the schedule, and said that someone would be with me shortly. I thanked her and took a seat. I then proceeded to wait almost another half hour and noticed that people that came in way after me were getting serviced. I finally came up again, wondering what was going on. They checked their calendar FOR THE THIRD TIME for my name, which was apparently nowhere to be found. I am not sure how exactly this could happen given that they had "checked" my name twice before and told me I was all set. I am NOT the kind of person to cause a scene or get impatient in a salon, and usually give people the benefit of the doubt, but this was completely ridiculous. I told them never mind, that I had to be out of here soon (which would have been feasible if I actually receive the service I booked), and the receptionist (who I think was also the manager) had the nerve to ask me to reschedule. REALLY? How about a comped service or at least throw in some polish? She kept on saying "I feel so bad," but would not do anything about it. I left feeling really disappointed, and though I did not cause a scene, I feel that it would have been warranted in this case.

Best of Newbury? I think not. Take your money and go elsewhere. Though this place puts on a nice facade, no business that truly cares about customer service would let this happen. Shame on you, MiniLuxe.

Terrible customer service. A friend recommended MiniLuxe as a good place to do manicures and pedicures for another friend's birthday. I called on a Tuesday and was told they could take 5 of us for manicures and pedicures on Saturday at 4:30. They then emailed me a contract. I completed all of my contact information on the contract, signed the contract committing to 5 people for basic manicures and pedicures ($53 each) at 4:30 on Saturday and provided a credit card number. I emailed the contract the same day I received it. And thought I was all set. On Thursday I received an email (it was sent on Wed) saying they needed the names of the participants. I was still under the impression we were confirmed since they had my credit card info. I replied to the email Thursday night. On Friday I received an email that they were booked and could not take us! Apparently, since I missed the last page of the contract which asked for specific names they would not hold the appointments. They did have the signature part of the contract, the fact there were five of us and we wanted basic mani/pedi, my credit card number and my phone number. The fact that the coordinator did not call me when she received the contract to ask me the names is extremely bad service. Obviously, we full intended to go to the salon and drop over $250, yet they did not have the decency to pick up the phone to tell me they absolutely need names of participants to book the appointment. Why could they not just book them under my name, afterall they had my credit card #? Why when she received the signed contract, did the coordinator not call me to inform me the appointments would not be booked? This is not the customer service I would expect from a salon on Newbury St. Be very weary if you are planning an event here!!!

WORST EXPERIENCE...EVER!!!. I cannot believe that this actually happened, but it did.

I made an appointment for a basic pedicure because I had tried to be a walk-in before and they were all booked. I couldn't find parking on Newbury, so I called ahead to say I'm running 5-10 minutes late and they said it's ok and thanked me for calling. I get there in 10 minutes and she said that I couldn't do a pedicure, but I could do a nail color change. I can paint my own nails, thanks. The reason why I went through all the trouble of finding parking and coming out there was to treat myself to a pedicure and the cashier DID NOT allow me to have a pedicure because there wasn't enough time. On their website they quote 45 minutes for a pedicure. Why book appointments back-to-back??? I called to say I'd be running late, so why penalize me by not allowing me the service that I wanted?!

I was baffled that the horribly rude cashier (who is orange, by the way) would talk to me like I'm a 5-year-old trying to explain that I only have time for a color change and she did not realize I only wanted a pedicure. I did not understand why she was trying to get me to do something that I did not want. The girl who was supposed to be giving my pedicure said she could do a pedicure really quickly, but without a massage. I said fine, but I don't expect to have to pay for a full pedicure. The cashier said that I would! I was shocked she had the nerve. She was tired of talking to me and said we were wasting time, so she rushed me away even though we hadn't settled on whether I was getting a rushed pedicure or a color change.

I ended up getting a color change (that wasn't even that good). I went to check out and the cashier says it's $20. By this time I'm so pissed off that I even had to go through this that I paid and tipped the girl who provided my service and asked for the cashier's manager's number to find out she is the manager!

What kind of messed up establishment has a manager who talks to guests like that and is so short with her employees. She practically barked at the girl to usher me into the back.

I paid $20 for a mediocre color change even though I had made an appointment for a pedicure and was not allowed to have a pedicure! DO NOT GO HERE.

Miniluxe MiniSUX. Hi All,

I normally don't write reviews but I felt compelled following a terrible pedicure experience at Miniluxe. I have had many amazing pedicures in my life and thought I'd "pay up" on my birthday given the good reviews here. I was in need of a great pedicure but also wanted a little extra in the way of a massage so ordered one of their specialty pedicures with candle wax and a massage for 45 minutes. Sounds amazing right, not even close.

First off, the chairs that you sit in aren't even chairs but rather a large bench that is shared with others. So you are forced to sit in an upright, uncomfortable position for your less than luxurious treatment. When the woman came over I clearly explained that I was looking for a great pedicure but also really wanted a nice massage. She suggested the candle wax pedicure ($45) because there was a massage component and it was a 45 minute process. I went for it, which was a big mistake.

The pedicure was done very quickly and the massage was about as half hearted as they come. Further, I don't think the woman used enough candle wax (maybe they're cutting costs) because there was way too much friction so it hurt. I would have rather had oil or lotion and not paid the extra money for the wax. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

The WORST part was that the treatment did not even last for a full 45 minutes like I thought. It was over in 30 minutes when the woman hopped up and told me I was finished. Maybe she was hungry or had to go to the bathroom, but I was confused. I then asked the woman at the cash register about the time saying that I was expecting 45 minutes and it was over in 30 minutes and she basically told me that "they quote 45 minutes but it can be shorter". I guess that makes sense if you're a customer that likes paying for a service that you never receive.

I created this account just to post this because I was a little upset throughout every step in the process. Everyone seems to rave about this place (mostly because of the manicures and Minx I should add) but I prefer other places in Boston for pedicures. At Miniluxe, the prices are not reasonable, they have uncomfortable chairs, and the services are not provided as advertised.

Hope this is helpful to others looking for a pedicure. I will not return.

minx twist. I went to the miniluxe newbury location and found out they do minx. instead of doing the minx on all nails they offer a regular manicure with just a few nails that have minx. I loved how it turned out and it was a fun twist on the all minx mani!

Cant wait to try Minx!. After 25 years of using regular old nail polish, I am super excited about trying something new! I just read the DailiyCandy write up about Minx…I’ve heard only good things about it and have seen it in all the mags on the celebs. I’m personally psyched to try the metallic ones (did anyone see Fergie at all the movie premier’s rocking the gunmetal nails?! That was Minx!) Love that Miniluxe is up on the trends and bringing it to Boston!
