Editorial Review for Barbershop Lounge – by Eric Grossman
Dark wood, exposed brick, black leather chairs, and flat-screen TVs make for an unquestionably manly grooming experience on Newbury Street. This hot spot lives up to the "lounge" part of its name--the pool table, coffee bar, and said TVs make Barbershop Lounge a hangout unto itself--but the real deal offered here is the full menu of services for men, including haircuts, hot shaves, waxing, hand and foot treatments (MANicures and massages), and shoe shines. Whether it's the average man looking for a simple haircut or a metrosexual seeking a full spa treatment, Barbershop Lounge has it all, offered in a masculine and comfortable environment.

Went with a buddy to try a haircut and a shoeshine. I ended up getting a free hand detail in the chair during the haircut. I felt like royalty. They definately had the service down. My buddy got a shoeshine, then hung out in the "lounge" till I was finished. We stayed and hung out, shot a game of pool ! This is a guys place .. I would highly recommend it . I will be back and may plan a "pre-game" event for a few of my top clients from work.

This place is geared for the Eurotrash set. The word that comes to mind is "slick" -- too much attitude, not enough substance. It's like the other hundred overpriced salons on Newbury, but with less feminine decor. I can't figure out why they call themselves Barbershop Lounge since there's only one barber on staff! In any event, my haircut was pretty average. I didn't try other spa services so I can't comment on those, but the place was pretty empty when I got there.
Pros: Location, interesting decor
Cons: Sizzle with no steak
