Tips for Ecco Beauty Hair Salon

February 18, 2013

I am not a high-demand client. For me this is about as perfect as I've ever had for a haircut/salon/stylist.

I am half-Chinese, and like to have a fairly typical male haircut. Other stylists in Boston and other cities have such a hard time getting it right. But I described what i wanted to her, showed a couple pictures for comparison, and she took care of it. No kidding, in about 15 minutes of cutting, she nailed it. She even added nice texture and edging.

But wait, there's more. I've never had to wait for a haircut at this place. Sure, that can be interpreted as bad because there aren't enough clients. But I don't care if there are 0 or 1000, if they cut my hair well, I'll go back. The most people I've ever seen in there is 1 other client. But that just means I never have to call ahead or wait for a haircut.

But wait, there's more. Before getting your haircut, her assistant gives you a 10-minute shampoo and scalp massage. It's very enjoyable. It's not a luxury back massage with bells and whistles. But they take their time to clean your hair, massage a few points on your scalp and neck, and then a rinse.

All for $25 (for men).

So here's the summary: fast, friendly hair-cut, done right the first time, with a little shampoo perk. If you're in a rush, you can be in out and gone within 30 minutes. How can you beat that?

Excellent Japanese hair-straightening at a very fair price. Tammy and her staff are great. I have gotten the Japanese hair-straightening twice, and both times have been very pleased. Tammy does not keep you waiting, devotes her time and attention to you entirely, takes her time in processing your hair, and insists on completing every step thoroughly and to perfection. Her assistant, Ben, also does a fantastic job--very diligent and patient. Ying gives a shampoo and massage to die for. This is an outstanding, well-managed, full-service salon in a T-accesssible location (bus, Orange and Green lines). The prices are very reasonable and in fact, well below Newbury Street. The long Japanese hair-straightening sessions would be less of an ordeal, however, if you could bring your laptop and surf the net with wireless; this is something Tammy is looking into. For a "champagne style on a beer budget"--try Tammy at the Ecco Beauty and Hair Salon. You won't be disappointed! Top-shelf establishment.

great place for facial. I had done facial massage for many years while i was in China, I really enjoyed it. However, since I came over to the US, it took me many years to finally find one place that I love, since the massage technique in those salon was not comparable at all to what I had in China. I have been to Ecco for the past 15 months for facial massage, Tammy is not only good at facial massage, she's also very friendly and super fun to talk to. I haven't cut my hair there, but I knew that my friend loved her hair style so much once she stood in front of the mirror after her hair cut there......

came out with fried hair.. NEVER GO HERE.

tammy is terrible! i went in for digital perm/haircut and my friend was there for a haircut. i asked for 1/2 inch trim. WRONG. her haircut was extremely sloppy and cut nearly 5 inches off. my friend said the same thing; her long hair turned out medium length (around her shoulder) and she was extremely upset. she was also extremely rough when blowdrying the hair; she was literally hitting my friends head with the comb. she is TERRIBLE at styling...

and as for digital perm, i wanted to cry. my hair was pretty much FRIED. and i complained, but she said `ur hair was originally damaged` - what the hell are you talking about? it was NOT damaged!

my friend and i only paid half the price. later on, i had to go to a different hair salon and they were shocked to see how damaged my hair was. as a result, i had to cut off another 3 inches. now my long hair is gone; i have extremely short hair and it will prob take over an year to grow it back out.

i am so upet with tammy. i will NEVER go there. i suggest everyone to look for elsewhere. there are plenty of better places, unless u want to get extra inches off ur haircut/burn ur hair/get smacked in the head with the comb.

Great service, price is fair, close to China Town T stop.. I went to Ecco Beauty Hair Salon to do my hair straightening this weekly, It came out shinier and straighter then what I expected. The price is fair with the great services, I know all of the other hair salon would charge $100 per hour to do the Japanese Straightening, but Ecco Beauty Hair Salon only charge the flat rate of the services, and the price is lower for other salon in this area.

Avoid. I had an OK cut here. It was pretty pricey for a simple cut ($30!) and when I checked my credit card statement, I saw they added on $5 without my approval (I had already added on tip!). I am currently in contact with my credit card company with a complaint. Untrustworthy!!!

Complete disregard for request. I went in to Ecco for a trim and came out with 5 inches missing from my hair, and the back looking like it was put through a shredder. I specifically asked for 1/2 inch off the back, and some angling around the face. I don't know what the person was thinking when he layers the back and took 1/2 inch of the front. I stopped him half way when I could see he wasnt doing what he wanted, but assured me he only took 1/2 inch off.

I told them I was not happy at all but they did nothing. If you go here, do not go to the guy who cuts hair--he will do what he wants.

Chinatown? So what!. I found Ecco by doing a salon search on craigslist and found that they were advertising the abominably expensive bio-ionic Japanese hair straightening system for more than $200 LESS than any other local competitor who does this service. For some reason I was hesitant about the Chinatown address, but I don't know why, since I am just as wary of Newbury Street locations. I am so thrilled that I went, because they are really phenomenal, from a customer service standpoint as well as their technical abilities. Tammy is the owner and she has been trained in London and New York. She took her time with me, has a good sense of humor, and is very professional and serious about her work. She has a thick Chinese accent, but speaks perfect English. They are right off the Orange line across from the Chinatown T-stop, which makes them even more convenient since I was coming from JP. It took me less than twenty minutes to get there.
