Love It. Kookie has since relocated to 14A Hancock Street Dorchester next to the Strand Theatre. Salon is much bigger and much better. Service is still her top priority and it shows, I recently moved to Boston and was referred to her Salon. I am extremely satisfied and highly recommend Kookies.

NOT For Natural Hair. I went to this place in June 09 after speaking with Kookie on the phone. (I am just now able to write this review because I was too angry to even focus on writing.) I have natural hair and wanted to just get my hair in plaits (which are braids but not braids normally done with extensions nor cornrolls). Kookie said she did natural hair care because her own hair was natural and that she could do the job. So I booked an appointment.

The shop is small and nice. There were customers already before me. I observed her do a nice job with her "perm hair" clients. Clearly she can work with perm hair. After a while, (I was use to waiting so I didn't fuss), I was in her chair. She shampooed and conditioned my hair (harmless enough) and then sits me under the dryer to COMPLETELY dry my hair which is now an afro. My afro is now HARD after coming from under the dryer.

She then attempts to blow dry my hair!! Need I say painful? She sees that she can't and then decides to use the flat iron! Doesn't work well!! After an excessive amount of grease is applied to my hair, she then takes the hot comb to run it through my hair. My ends were a mess (stuck together) and so she had to cut them off! She then asks me if I wanted curls!! I reminded her that I was the girl who wanted regular simple plaits - I don't think she even remembered our conversation. She quickly braids my hair (which is slick and shining more than the sun itself because of all the oil she had to use) into seven to eight plaits.

I walked away from that chair NEVER to EVER grace Kookie's Hair Fortune salon again. She knows NOTHING about natural hair care. This should have been the most easiest task for any hair stylist!! I went to the dumbest natural hair stylist in Dorchester - straight GHETTO! I should have paid more attention when I first walked in her salon and noticed that she was wearing a weave that needed to be seriously redone! If you have natural hair - DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!!! You've been warned!
