The Scene – Located inside Louis, Boston's Mecca of all things fashionable, Boston Public successfully caters to the boutique's moneyed, well-dressed clientele. The main dining room maintains a chic atmosphere with dim lighting and stark, minimalist color scheme. Come summertime, lunching ladies fill the outdoor patio's sun-splashed tables for fantastic views of bustling Newbury Street. When not delivering selections from the bar's impressive wine and beer lists, impeccably groomed waiters and busboys practice their modeling techniques. – – The Food – The…

I was recently at Boston Public with three friends, I had the tuna summer rolls I AM HOOKED.!! my friends had the sweet potato soup, tomato mozzarella salad, and the beet salad. All were great love the mozzarella. For an entree I had the salmon, i loved it ,best i have had in a long time the pickled vegetables were a perfect match. My friends had the cod, filet and skirt steak. Everyone was very happy with the food and our waiter was extreemely professional attentitve and recommeded some great wines. New harbor sauv blanc and the patricia green pinot noir for me both were outstanding and complimented my food well. I also loved the Pierre Sparr . We all shared the cheesecake and shortcake perfect. We highly recommend Boston Public.
- Pros: food, wines, service cozy atmosphere
This is upscale?

My girlfriends and I went to Boston Public last night for dinner, expecting a fantastic meal as well as an exciting atmosphere. We were completely disappointed.
First, the service was terrible, slow, inattentive and immature. On two occasions, the waitress behind me dropped first a knife and then an entire metal tray on the ground which silenced the entire restaurant. The food was definitely overrated. The chicken spring roll appetizer tasted like they bought it at whole foods and served as their own. The salmon was slimy and the steak was served - without steak knives. We had to ask for steak knives to be delivered; isn't Boston Public a "steak house"? The dessert was the best part of the meal, however the strawberry shortcake was served in a wine glass and almost impossible to eat. To top off the night, the waiter overcharged us.
The atmosphere was more like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" than upscale restaurant since everyone was seated on top of each other with barely room to breathe within chairs. Overall, we were totally unimpressed with Boston Public and would advise people to go elsewhere in search of a decent meal in Boston.
Worst Dining Experience/Saturday Night
by BostonDinerG at Citysearch
Please note: All diners in our party eat out frequently at top rated steakhouses/restaurants on a weekly basis. No one attended to our table of 8 for a whole 15 minutes, only 3-4 tables seated. After we tried to order beers where told they only had one beer tonight (Heineken). Then after we ordered our round, came back to tell us they were out of certain Vodka that they had said they had. Laotian Ribs where not on the menu and that is something they are always written up for, server said they ran out at lunch. Came back to tell us before we ordered our meals that they were out of Chicken and Salmon. Majority ordered the Filet Mignons. After we placed our order, came out and told us they only had 2 Filets left (this was at 8:30 on a Saturday night). Host then brought out some extra orders of Edamame as an apology. We ordered one order for an app and it was hardly touched so it was very insulting for them to bring 3 more as their apology. Host said that they cook was very picky about the quality of food he prepares and if he feels that it?s not good he refused to cook it. Host said some customers have a problem with this. Yes, when we are at a steakhouse and they do not have any Filets left at 8:30, that is a problem. 9:00 asked if there was a problem, no sign of food - 9:30 food finally arrived. NY Sirloin was so fatty you could not cut them. Where told they would give us free desserts but we said we just wanted the check. When the check came everything was on there, they did not even take the Sirloin off after we complained. There was not one manager there that night to speak to us. The host came over, said he would take off the NY Sirloin, we told him we were disappointed with the experience and he said I quote ?I?m sorry you feel that way, we were voted #3 best steakhouse MSN.? Something is going on at this restaurant, incredibly bad service but worst kitchen/management. This is unacceptable at such a high-end, expensive establishment.
- Pros: Ambience
- Cons: Management, Kitchen Service
