“Rating this place is difficult, because I absolutely loved the actual gym, but simply HORRIBLE service and management makes the experience not worthwhile.”
“This is the best fitness club in the city and Equinox Boston is definitely worth checking out!”
If you like lines and crowds this is the place for you.
I thought that I would love this gym when I joined in September 2010, sadly this is not the case.
I have three major issues:
I have to wait for a shower most mornings. There are only 8 showers in the womens locker room. The handicap shower is lousy very few people use it so there are really only 7. Today I had to wait for 20 minutes, yesterday 14 minutes. The general manager basically told me there was nothing they can do to fix the issue so I can cancel my membership if I wanted to.
The women's locker room is consistently over heated. Most mornings the thermometer reads around 73. Very difficult to apply make up when you are sweating.
There are only two spin bikes on the cardio floor. One has been broken since I have been here. I have had numerous conversations about this with the manager and staff. I have also sent emails and left comments on the customer service web site with no response.
Every time I am in the club these bikes are being used. Fix one of the more popular pieces of equipment or add more. Not rocket science.
The good point is that my favorite yoga instructor is here. I am sad to be leaving the club for that reason. The Barre Burn class on Thursday mornings is also very good.
I just think they have oversold memberships and don't know how to handle the demand.
Great gym--unprofessional staff members. Just a bit of advice--definitely research your trainer before buying a package and signing up with him or her!! There are some really great trainers/Pilates instructors there, while others are total jokes. For almost $100/hour, just ask around first! I learned the hard way...
WORST Experience Ever!. When I joined in 2008, Equinox the facility was very clean and the employees were professional. However, since the management change this Spring, everything has fallen apart. The locker room floors are grimy. The staff bombards members with phone calls trying to sell services. When asking questions of the staff and management, either incorrect information is given or the management does not bother to provide an answer at all. The front desk staff is rude. When I went to the front desk to pay for a spa service, a staff member stated, "I don't care what your problem is, and I can't help you!" I explained that I was only there to pay for a spa service. He laughed and made an excuse that he had a bad day with other customers. The other staff members have this same bad attitude. I am leaving Equinox and joining Boston Sports Club, instead.
Good gym, HORRIBLE service.
Rating this place is difficult, because I absolutely loved the actual gym, but simply HORRIBLE service and management makes the experience not worthwhile.
I urge to think twice before you sign up.
After having a great year at the gym I was going to cancel the membership due to the fact that I was moving away. Long story short I was charged over $200 extra for not submitting a cancellaton notice on time (45 days before). After trying to explain my case - I tried to cancel on time, but was misled by one of the employees who misinformed me about the correct way cancel the membership because he misinterpreted our conversation.
The assistant manager refused to waive or even reduce the fees. No concessions, no understanding, not even a personal meeting. My message was passed along to the assistant manager, but he never gave me a call back, claiming it was the first time he heard about the issue. Not possible, since I personally heard the front desk advisor deliver this issue to him. I had to find the e-mail of the assistant manager online and reach out myself.
Client is NOT always right for Equinox. I am paying the fees, but will do my best to pass this story along to anyone who considers this gym.
Do yourself a service - consider a different gym that actually values its clientele.

Great customer service and genuine too.
I came here from another state not knowing if I could join as I didn't know if the move would be temporary or permanent. I got a week's pass and the people were suburb about giving it to me. They didn't try to hassle me about joining; they are super nice and I tell you, the extra money to join is worth it if you can swing it.
Kristi (sp?) the fitness manager is great and Collin (sp?) was very cool. He wanted me to join and gave me all the details and this conscientiousness I appreciate.
The people working here deserve good things!
Thanks!
Equinox Boston is FANTASTIC!!!. Equinox is FANTASTIC!! I have been utterly impressed with the cleanliness of the entire place (i.e. locker rooms and equipment), top-notch equipment and fitness staff; furthermore, there is always a quality of spaciousness even if it is "packed" full of people. I never have to wait for anything or anyone. I was a member of BSC for seven years--I haven't a clue what took me so long to become a member of Equinox. I suppose it was due to my sheer lack of not wanting to go 3 blocks out of my way and I didn't want to join a gym that resembled Sports Club LA. Although, Equinox is an upscale gym it's nothing like Sports Club LA (I don't have time to care about my makeup or what I am wearing when I work out). I prefer going to a gym to workout. There is nothing wrong with socializing if that's what someone wants to do at a gym; however, that is not my #1 priority when I go to a gym. Lastly, I strongly recommend my trainer Lesley Boyce who is knowledgeable, tough and a truly a wonderful human being. I like the fact that that all the trainers seem like cool people who are not in your face trying to sell and/or market themselves. I STRONGLY recommend this exceptional gym!! I give them a big thumbs up!! Everyone there is quite lovely!!!
Best gym in america.
Equinox was recently named ?Best Gym in America? by Fitness magazine, and I could not agree more. I?ve been a member at many gyms in and around Boston and Equinox tops everything. The club is immaculately clean. The staff is friendly, knows everyone by name, and genuinely cares. The gym has tons of fitness equipment so I never get bored and it's never too crowded. Even during peak times, I've never had to wait for a machine.
Even their aerobics classes are nothing I've ever encountered. The instructors are the best and they really know how to make a class an experience.
Their personal trainers are so smart. They really know their stuff. I wouldn?t trust my body and goals with anyone else.
The spa is a great benefit. There's nothing like a massage after an intense workout.
Equinox turned me onto Pilates. Now I can?t imagine my week without it.
Equinox has tons of locations across the country, so whenever I'm traveling I can stay on track with my exercise.
Equinox is top notch when it comes to the level of quality, service and value. I never want to leave!
Upscale, Zen-inspired gym catering to the fit professional..
The Scene
With its ultra-clean, minimalist décor and its topnotch staff, Equinox raises the bar for chain health clubs. At consistently spacious facilities, the design team continually maximizes natural light and highlights organic architectural quirks. Equipment from industry standards like Cybex and Hammerstrength are paired with high-end machinery--including one specifically designed for the company by Life Fitness. Even the piped-in music (which varies from room to room) has been thoughtfully programmed. Locker rooms are uniformly spotless.
The Workout
The in-house personal-training program--which approaches strength, balance and coordination in a cyclical pattern--is so highly regarded that some independent gyms recognize it in lieu of more established national certifications. Indeed, instructors in the top tier must have academic articles published in their area of expertise. Classes are offered round the clock and range from Spinning and yoga to more unique hybrids incorporating boxing and ballet. Many studios boast sprung floors.
Best Member Experience. There is really nothing like Equinox Fitness. I was a member in New York and I have since moved to Boston and recently joined the club!!! I have never met such a friendly, professional, and upbeat staff. Equinox has the most energizing group fitness classes around, great yoga programming, and the cleanest fitness enviornment around. This is the best fitness club in the city and Equinox Boston is definitely worth checking out!
