“Prices seem perfect - you get what you pay for - and you can drink the cheap stuff all night, or really live it up with some of the nicer, pricier bottles.”
Worst service ever. Where to start...the servers were incredibly rude and ignorant...there's a reason why they only take cash at this bar and I would not trust these people with my credit info if my life depended on it...their beer list is completely unexciting...and seriously...hot dogs? if this is all this place has got to offer, eat hot dogs at home. I will never, ever go back to this bar.
SKETCHY bar. this is the worst bar I've ever been to and will NEVER go back. the waiters there are sketchy as hell and charged our party twice for drinks and were rude and sketchy when asked about it. if they were rational, intelligent people, the matter could have been resolved...but they are totally sketchy and i would never, ever go back there. their draft list blows...there was nothing on it worth ordering and their bottled beer selection was even worse...
A subterranean Kenmore Square hangout, good for dollar dogs and hard-to-find brews..
In Short
A pleasant alternative to Kenmore Square's sporty nightlife options, the Lower Depths serves as a relaxed spot for enjoying rare microbrews and souped-up bar food. The sleek environs and eclectic tunes provide a bit of an edge, and friendly servers do their best to describe the rarer of the 16 brews on tap (dozens more are available by the bottle, including 40s of Colt 45). Hardly anything on the menu tops $10, and inviting items include crab and rock shrimp crostadas, jerked fish tacos, and a flat iron steak sandwich.
My favorite bar in Boston. Not only do I come here at least once a week, I've made bar-friends. The regulars all know each other. They are interesting, but the most you can say about this place is that it is absolutely perfect. You will not find Coors Light here, which thankfully, drives away "that" kind of crowd. GREAT beer, poured in the correct glass, served at the correct temperature, paired with delicious, down-to-earth food, served by friendly, smart, down-to-earth people. It's clean, the bathrooms are clean, the patio is great in the warm weather. I love Bukowski's, the sister bar to this one, but this is so much cleaner and fresher, and just delightful. I've finally found my "cheers." I highly recommend it, but don't come in asking for Apple-tinis, or for a Guinness - they don't serve that here! Just tell the bartender what type or style of beer you like, and you will begin to learn so much more you've been missing out on. I hesitate to write a good review because I don't want this place getting any more crowded. (I used to love the Delihaus - way back in the day, and those who remember know of its greatness, but the Tap room ... just perfection in a neighborhood bar.)
Didn't Think Boston Had The Beans For This One... Yea! For Lower Depths. Mmm, Beer... but not the kind in the warm keg in the woods behind the high school. These folks know beer, and they'll tell you as much as you want to know about it. The list is enormous, but chances are, they don't have your ol' standby - tell the bartender what you usually drink, and they'll turn you on to something better. Ate there recently, and I'm thoroughly impressed. Don't eat before you go - the aromas are tantalizing, and the staff can pair your beer to the perfect dish the way a good Sommolier can with wine. Great comfort food favs, but thought out and prepared in ways that your mom never had time to, and with fresher ingredients by margins! Prices seem perfect - you get what you pay for - and you can drink the cheap stuff all night, or really live it up with some of the nicer, pricier bottles. Staff is fun and friendly, gracious and professional - They'll recognize you after only a short time, and you'll always get a wave and a hello. The atmosphere is clean (yea! when you remember the old tenant of this infamous space) yet intimate - it's a sort of quirky mix of dive bar meets diner meets lounge, but the best of all of those, and reflective of the folks who hang there. And though I hate to admit to it, I do love a cigarette on the patio after my meal... WITH my beer! I could go on and on... I really dig this place, and I'll be spending a good bit of time there from here on. Definately a new favorite.
I love this place. The Lower Depths is great. I go there a few times a week with my friends and we always have a good experience. I love the selection of beers, the bartenders/servers are really friendly, and the atmosphere is really chill. The music isn't too loud so you can actually hear what your friends are saying, and they have good food too. Don't tell too many people about this place, I want to keep going there without having to fight my way in!!
Excellent hidden lunch spot. I finally made it to the Lower Depths to check it out. I usually drop by Bukowski's when I run errands downtown, but had heard about the new spot. There was only the bartender when I was there, and she was very friendly and knew enough about the beers to help me choose something new to try. My lunch came out in less than ten minutes. Whatever problems there were in the kitchen have been worked out by now. When the patio doors are open and the sun is out this is going to be an awesome spot. Good music. Good burger. Good service. I like it.
dollar dogs. enjoy it now.. dollar dogs. enjoy it now before the season starts and the crowds come. and they serve 40s, how cool is that?
Good beer selection. Very disappnointing. I'm a big fan of Bukowski's and looked forward to this new place. The beer selection was very good, but it took over 45 minutes for our food to come and then it was only OK. We could have used some snacks if it was going to take that long for a couple of sandwiches. I'm going back to Bukowski's to spin the Wheel O Beer. Steve, Attleboro
