“had been to Caprice (upstairs from Underbar) many times and really enjoyed the atmosphere so I thought Underbar would be similar.”
“think the cover price is ridiculous and they make you wait upstairs at a different bar before you”
“Love this place for dancing--2 main rooms w/ different DJ's, usually international music on one side and house on the other, or sometimes salsa.”
“went the Underbar with a few girlfriends recently, because I had heard it was a good place for dancing and worth the cover fee.”
“Good music and several several of the staff showed to be reasonable and well balanced.”
“Drinks are expensive but i like the international euro crowd”
A fun place with room to dance. The DJ on the night we went was really good and we had fun dancing all night. They have a seating area with a raised 'stage' in the middle where you can dance... if you're female ;-). Overall very fun.
Wanna be a Rockstar for the night?.
I like acting like I'm Paris Hilton @ Underbar. So unless you're willing to get crazy.. and I mean dancing on the stage crazy, you're not going to live up to your rockstar reputation here!
The place is super plush and loungey-looking but it hosts house music on weekends.. it's also kind of tucked downstairs so I never even knew it existed from the street until a few of my model friends took me there. Yes, wear your stillettos girls, or you'll get lost in the crowd of beanstalks.
Wear something OUT OF THIS WORLD. Do you have a flapper dress? Howabout something super low cut with a super high hem? Go go boots with goldfish. Something that you can rock that dance floor with. You'll be spazzing out all night to the music and that's a good thing if you missed a few days @ the gym this week O.o
Great for House music. Found out about the club from InstantNightLife -skipped waiting in line and danced my ass off all night!
Nice club. Im not a fan of house music but I hadnt checked out instantnightlife's website before going there. Drinks are expensive but i like the international euro crowd
Int'l crowd and good music. I found Underbar on this new InstantNightlife website and visited... not too shabby. Has 2 rooms with diff't music and a really nice crowd.
One of Boston's Best. Underbar has an amazing sound system & books some of the best events for house music in Boston. I always have a great time when i go there, and so does everyone else that I'm with. It's fun, busy & consistent, and i enjoy the atmosphere, the people that work there & the people that hang out there. It's one of my favorite places... and, in my opinion, its one of the city's best venues.
Underwater dance club. Love this place for dancing--2 main rooms w/ different DJ's, usually international music on one side and house on the other, or sometimes salsa. Decor has lots of little seashells grouted into the walls which is pretty cool looking, and makes it seem like dancing underwater. Drink prices are average for Boston. Saturdays are best, but specifically look for visiting DJ's, because that will pretty much guarantee a fab night!
Stay Away. Good music and several several of the staff showed to be reasonable and well balanced. Interestingly enough, I also ran into different prices for the same drink from different bartenders. And what started as a good evening, ended abruptly from the womanizing on behalf of the management and I presume ownership. Stay away.
Not that impressive. I think this place is cool, but I really don't think it's over the top, either. Drinks were very inconsistant. I don't mind high price if i get a good drink that is worth it, but when three bartenders all tell me different prices, I am really not sure what that's all about. Music was cool, and lot of cute girls were a plus...but it's all average compare to other clubs. The door staff can learn to behave more instead of always trying to accept money from people trying to skip the line.
Disappointing experience; poor treatment of guests.
I went the Underbar with a few girlfriends recently, because I had heard it was a good place for dancing and worth the cover fee. I had been to Caprice (upstairs from Underbar) many times and really enjoyed the atmosphere so I thought Underbar would be similar. When we got there there, it was practically empty. I was initially put off by the little knit silver dresses (think old school Star Trek) women there wore as uniforms since I had expected a classier club; however, we had paid the $20 fee to enter so I thought we might as well make the most of the night.
My friends and I danced for a while until it started to fill up at which point a man working there told us we were dancing too close to a reserved table. Obnoxious as that is in itself, since although we hadn't paid to reserve a table we were still paying customers, it was his curt manner of speaking to me/us that was the problem. I had never been spoken to so rudely at a club or restaurant in my life and I was embarrassed and confused by his bullying attitude. When I asked him to clarify, he said that we had been putting our drinks on a reserved table, which I don't think we had done and certainly would have stopped doing had we been approached politely. I asked to speak to the manager and he wouldn't talk to us. I think we were all taken aback, especially since as a small group of women we weren't used to being seen as unwelcome at any establishment.
The night was ruined and ended up seriously deteriorating after that point.
