Disclosure. I adopted a great dog from here but he has major medical issues that the shelter was aware of (have paperwork to prove it) and they never told me. Their own shelter vet told them this dog needed meds and what one and they chose not to follow their own vet's advice and tried to treat one of the ailments with an OTC product which did no good. This dog's meds cost me well over $200 per month for a chronic disease. I should have been told about this and I think they were very negligent in not giving full disclosure and in not treating the dog as their own vet advised. I would never have returned this dog, once I adopt he's mine to care for. I also think their adoption fees are much too high. Please don't say it's because they need the money to help the other dogs in their care...I have living proof sitting at my feet that this doesn't always happen.
Really good shelter.
I have adopted from the Blue Dog Shelter and they are a very caring group of people. They try to match each dog with the best possible home and they make sure that the new family understands what owning a dog involves.
I am sorry that another person had a bad experience - I know that they would never adopt a dog to someone else if they had a deposit from someone else. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding?
Great place!. I am sorry that your heart was broken, but the people at the shelter really are doing a service for these dogs. The rules on the website do state that you have to put a non-refundable deposit down on a dog if you want no one else to be able to view it. There are many other amazing dogs at the shelter that are in need of a good home. They too do not judge and only want to be loved. I would not give up finding a good dog there. The volunteers are really trying to get the perfect match for each dog.
DO NOT ADOPT A DOG FROM HERE!.
I WENT AND FOUND A BEAUTIFUL DOG. I WAS SO EXCITED AND WENT OVER THE DETAILS AND WHAT THE NEXT STEPS WERE TO TAKE THE DOG HOME. THE VERY NEXT DAY I WENT BACK WITH EVERYTHING THEY SAID I NEEDED AND THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD SOMEONE ELSE COME IN AND TAKE THE DOG ALREADY!
I FEEL SO ALONE IN LIFE AND WAS LOOKING FOR A COMPANION, SOMEONE THAT WOULD NEVER JUDGE ME AND NEVER LEAVE ME. THIS DOG CONNECTGED WITH ME FROM THE START. I SUFFER FROM BAD DEPRESSION AND HAD NOT BEEN HAPPY ONE DAY UNTIL I SET EYES ON THIS DOG, I KNEW SHE WAS THE ONE FOR ME.
THE LADY WORKING THERE KNEW HOW INTERESTED I WAS AND THAT I WAS COMMING BACK TO GET IT, SHE TOLD ME THE NEXT STEPS TO FOLLOW TO GET THAT DOG AND THE NEXT DAY I HAD EVERYTHING READY ONLY TO HEAR THEY SOLD MY DOG TO SOMEONE ELSE.
I HAVE NEVER FELT MORE BETRAYED AND MORE DEPRESSED AND I HOPE THAT ANYONE READING THIS DECIDING TO GO HERE OR NOT REALLY THINKS ABOUT MY STORY BEFORE SOMETHING AS HEART BREAKING AS THIS HAPPENS TO YOU OR YOUR FAMILY.
