The Scene
With over a dozen locations in the greater Boston area, diners don't have to travel far to enjoy a fast, affordable meal of brick oven pizza, fresh salads, and pasta dishes. Regardless of the location, expect to see many families--kids are given raw dough to play with--and young couples on dates. Servers are more than happy to keep refilling baskets of the excellent oven-warm rolls. A pedestrian wine and beer list is available, though most diners opt for soft drinks or water.
The Food
Bertucci's deservedly prides itself on serving up consistently tasty pies with above-average toppings like carmelized onions, roasted zucchini and portobello mushrooms. Because they're wood-fired in a brick oven, the pies have a wonderfully smoky, crunchy crust. Standard antipasto plates and large salads are popular choices to start a meal. Desserts (boring tiramisu, creamy gelato) are better enjoyed elsewhere.

I've tried my luck at multiple Bertuccis locations around the city, hoping maybe my experience had been a fluke, but they just keep proving me right. To say it was terrible is unfair. it wasn't. It was just alltogether forgettable, but what you remember, you wish you didn't. The food was so salty it was pushing inedible. The staff have been sullen on good nights, or downright rude on the bad. I've been ignored, forgotten by waitstaff for long spans of time, and best of all, had appetizers we've ordered be forgotten altogether, only to be remembered when we recieve the check, as if we would really pay for food we were never served. I'm not a tough girl to please folks. I'm an excellent tipper--it's just good karma. But the service at Bertuccis really pushes my generosity to it's limits. If you want good italian, make the trek to the North end...it's worth the trip.
Pros: Many convenient locations, hence the multiple trips...
Cons: food & service

I've given Bertucci's - both the Kenmore Square and Harvard Square locations - numerous shots at this point. At no point have I ever walked out feeling really satisfied. I've either been ignored when I walk in, ignored after I've been seated, waited too long to order, waited too long for my food, waited too long for my check, gotten the wrong order, gotten cold food, gotten rude service... and never on particularly busy days. I'm a pretty easygoing person, and it takes a lot for me to complain about something, and that's why I've continually gone back to them - the convenience is good, and the prices are good. But the lack of service and the below-quality food just aren't worth it.
Pros: Cheap Italian with lots of locations
Cons: Inconsistent service and meal quality
