In Short
An approachable, all-purpose destination for culinary-minded J.P. residents, cafe D provides the neighborhood with a most stylish option. The tiny, narrow bar in back is perfect for enjoying some fish tacos and a glass of wine, and the cozy dining area is well-suited for those looking to enjoy a multi-course meal. Popular items on the Mediterranean-tinged menu include homemade pappardelle with lamb meatballs and a Moroccan salad that features Mejdool dates and oranges.

I have dined at Cafe D three times ... The first time I ate there was when it first opened . My guests and I had to wait an hour for the table. The food was really good. I ordered the fish taco and the service was good. The second time I ate there I ended up sitting at the bar because there was a long wait for a table. The bar staff was attentive and friendly but the hamburger that I ordered was well done when I ordered it medium rare. The third and probably the last time that I ate there was in June 2008. We were seated right away but after 15 minutes no one came over to our table. We alerted one of the staff and he seemed annoyed and said that he wasn't our waiter. When the waiter did arrive, he seemed like he was bothered to have to take our order. We also had to ask to order our drinks and then had to ask for bread. The whole time the waiter was rude and aloof -- it ruined our experience dining. He was not friendly or apologetic that we were left unattended. The food was average; we ordered the lamb burger and the tuna burger. There are better places to eat in JP --- Ten Tables staff is much friendlier and the food is higher quality for the price.

I have to say I saw a review for this restaurant on "Chronicle" and was curious. The address that I found on City Search was incorrect, but we found the restaurant. Small and tight, dark and cozy. My friend Paul and I had no problem securing a table. Our waiter was friendly and quick. For starters the Fish Tacos are to die for. Everyone should be required to try this item. Next we ordered Sea Bass done Asian style with jasmine rice and green beans, and Rizzoto with shrimp, scallops and clams. Both impressive. Full of flavor. There was a small wait between the time we finished and actually received our check, but not enough time to actually complain. I give this restaurant a "9" on a scale of 1-10.

I have visited this restaurant three times with my boyfriend. We keep coming back because the food is excellent and the atmosphere is easy-going and relaxed. To be fair I must say we've only come here on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. We have our favorite dishes off the brunch menu: the mussels appetizer and the salmon omelet. I also love the fish tacos. They have great loose-leaf tea. The waiters are always attentive and pleasant. The decor is really interesting, foreign newspapers on the walls, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling; it's a mix of classic and modern - very simple and tasteful. They have a beautiful bar with a t.v. as well.
