In Short
One of the more contemporary dining destinations in the mostly quiet Ladder District, Ivy provides its patrons with three levels of seating. The romantic subterranean lounge is ideal for weekend scenesters, while the main level's dark wooden bar proves popular among the after-work masses. Mussels in a fennel-white wine broth, seared scallops with blood orange vinaigrette, and pappardelle in a veal ragu are just a few of the Italian comfort dishes on offer.

I recently visited The Ivy with some friends. We were so looking forward to enjoying the tappas, drinks and a movie premiere. My friend had made reservations 2 weeks prior to our visit for 12 and she even received a call confirming her reservation. There was absolutely no mention of a private party coming in at 8:00 p.m. Some of us arrived at 6:00 and some did not get there till 7:00. We did not know part of our party would be late, but things happen. We were told around 7;00 about the private party coming in and that we would need to leave. We were surprised that when the reservations were made or when a call confirming the reservation, there was no mention of a "private party" coming in. I guess we were being penalized because part of our party was late? If we knew of the private party, we would have probably just tried to go somewhere else. So, when we were told that, we knew we would not be ready to leave by 8:00 (even if all of our party was there by 6:00 also) and asked the manager if we could be seated somewhere else. He was completely rude, snotty and also, not in the least bit accommodating. For a manager of a restaurant to act like that just appalled me. Our waiter, on the other hand, was extremely nice and felt so bad for us. He was even trying to get us in somewhere else. The manager even said if we order food and we are not done in time, that is pretty much too bad. This experience could have been so much better if the manager did not have the attitude he did. He should not be a manager of a restaurant and, obviously does not know how to deal with people. What we did get for food wasn't much since we did not have the chance, but I did like what we got, with the exception of a pork dish that was too tough. And, the drinks for the prices, could have been a little bit stronger! Maybe, The Ivy will improve if the owners decide to get rid of Todd, the manager!
Cons: poor customer service

I made reservations for a party of 12 for a Friday Night. My friends and I had plans to have appetizers and drinks before going to the Lowes Theater at 9:30 for a premiere. Some of the members of my party were late and did not get there until 7:00 although several of us were there and ordered drinks and food. Shortly before the rest of my party got to the restaurant, we were informed by our waiter that we would have to be done by 8:15 pm as there was a private party going on at that time. So we basically had an hour to eat. I asked the hostess if she could find us other tables and we were told the restaurant was full. I went to speak to the manager and told him that I had made the reservations 2 weeks in advance and was not told by the hostess that we had a time constraint on our table. His answer was that I should have specified that people in my party would not be there until 7:00 and that they had no other tables available. I told him that even if people got there late, we had planned to stay until 9:30 pm so what did it matter if people came late? He basically told me in a very rude manner that it was too bad and we would have to be finished by 8:00 pm. And when the rest of our party went to order, he came over to our table and told us we may want to think twice about ordering food because we had to be out of there by 8:00. Basically we were kicked out of a restaurant in the middle of dinner. This was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant and the worst treatment by a manager. He was smug and even smirked at us when he told us we had to leave. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!! The food was also terrible. Tiny portions where there wasn't even enough to share which is the whole purpose of tappas. Please do not go to this restaurant if you want to have a good time and a nice meal.
Pros: Service
Cons: Poor management
