What People Are Saying About Ivy Restaurant

Featured Review

In Short – One of the more contemporary dining destinations in the mostly quiet Ladder District, Ivy provides its patrons with three levels of seating. The romantic subterranean lounge is ideal for weekend scenesters, while the main level's dark wooden bar proves popular among the after-work masses. Mussels in a fennel-white wine broth, seared scallops with blood orange vinaigrette, and pappardelle in a veal ragu are just a few of the Italian comfort dishes on offer.

  1. The bar is nice but it should have a flat screen.
  2. The value is excellent with a good wine selection at $26 each.
  3. was there a few months ago, so perhaps they've worked on their quality since then, but I unfortunately cannot recommend Ivy, unless you're looking for a cute place to just grab a glass of wine with friends.
  4. The Ivy offers an affordable wine list with a handful of good value bottles that are a bargain at $26.
  5. And while the ambience was nice and the wine list was good/affordable, the food itself was terribly disappointing.
  6. the wine was perfect.
  7. and it all started when we told her we didn't want any alcholcholic drinks, when anyone from our party asked her to explain something on the menu she was rude and condesending.
  8. Its a great place to meet up for a drink with friends as well as dinner.
  9. With a limited beer selection, we said we may order some wine.
  10. If you are looking for a great place to drink some cheap wine try The Ivy.
  11. Love the $26 wine menu, and every dish we ordered -- scallops, sweet potato gnocchi, petit steak, and asparagus -- was superb.
  12. We LOVED the inexpensive wine list and the small plates made for an engaging group dining experience.
  13. The cosmo that I had at the bar was a great drink.
  14. The wine was superb.
  15. The place is loud, we waited forever to be seated--and forget the really bad wine sold to you at a mere $26.
  16. Our wine, which was ordered with our meals, because we had no time to order a drink then a meal we had to order everything at once, arrived after our two tapas dishes were served.
  17. We asked for a drink menu and one of my friends attempted to order a beer.
  18. This is a good spot for pre theater dinner/drinks or for an after work get together with friends.
  19. Tapas is great but the combo of Italian and tapas is not and neither is the soaring high price for it and the cough medicine after taste of their drinks to wash it all down!
  20. The waiter recommended a great wine and since they are all the same price, we knew he wasn't just trying to get us to order the most expensive.
  21. the food is usually fantastic, the wine list is excellent and well-priced.

  5. Decent food.
  6. Wonderful staff, tasty small plates, very cozy for a date, but equally accomodating for a group of friends.
  7. not worth the long wait and bad food
  8. The meal wasn't bad, it was just lacking a bit in flavor.
  9. Love the $26 wine menu, and every dish we ordered -- scallops, sweet potato gnocchi, petit steak, and asparagus -- was superb.
  10. highly recommend the Italian Butcher Block ($10 per couple), four different cured Italian meats served with a wonderfully tasty fig compote.
  11. Anyway, the menu was not very extensive: 5 main dishes.
  12. have found the small plates to be excellent and very good value--especially the ravioli, duck, and fish dishes.
  13. fortunately the food i had was not bad.
  14. So before you go to Eastern Standard, Teatro, Piattini or someplace you are worried will be "uptight", head over to Ivy and enjoy the casual intimacy of tasty tapas-style food and a truly decent price.
  15. It isn't cheap, but it is a good value for the ambiance and quality of food.
  16. The food was quite good, but how do they expect you to enjoy it?
  17. Although our server was quite friendly and likeable, her knowledge of the menu was lacking and we were disappointed by her incorrect descriptions of some of the dishes.

  19. We ordered the most delicious small plates and were full by the end of it all.
  20. Excellent food and fun experience (appetizer-based dining).
  21. delicious dessert served compliments of the chef!
  22. The petite steak was heavenly, fork-tender and served with a delicious pan sauce and tasty frites, but "petite" is the key word -- the $12 steak was four bites of goodness, hardly enough to share among friends.
  23. It came out looking & smelling like a chinese sweet & sour dish; but tasted more sour, & otherwise lacked flavor & chicken was dry.
  24. would absolutely go back here and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a great italian meal.
  25. Excellent atmosphere, incredible food.
  26. That was not my problem, but it made me realize that this restaurant is good for theater goers who don't mind mediocre food and service because it is convenient for seeing shows.
  27. can't wait to go back and simply enjoy a good meal rather than marvel at their service recovery skills.
  28. Those in the know will ask the chef to substitute mushroom ragout for the bean ragout and if you're feeling like comfort food with style, the mac& cheese is sinfully good as far as mac and cheese go.
  29. The decor is super cool, the prices are very OK, the food is fine, but not special, and the service is a pure horror.
  30. My friend and I were planning on having a nice lunch here during restaurant week thinking that the food would be exceptional - especially during restaurant week.

I went a few weeks ago with a party of 25 to celebrate a birthday. If it was not for friends and family I would have been irrate. I returned two signature drinks.....HORRIBLE, and picked at the food beacuse I felt as though it was not all that great cosidering the hype, a small break may be due because of the large party, however my biggest gripe is the owner trying to justify prices that you would see for entree at other restaurants with simply tapas here and calling it haute. Even more dissapointing is the fact that there menu is very much Italian based cuisine, I stand to be corrected but is it not true the idea of that type of food (Italy) is suppose to be BIG< oversized> and to be shared! NO way was I gonna share my $18 bite size italian tapas steak...........Tapas is great but the combo of Italian and tapas is not and neither is the soaring high price for it and the cough medicine after taste of their drinks to wash it all down!

Horrible Service and Nasty Attitude

by LydiaR at Citysearch

I went here with two friends after Christmas shopping downtown intending to have dinner and drinks. We put our names in for a table and decided to have a couple of drinks while we waited. Among us we have about 40 years of waitressing and bartending experience in Boston and New York, so we're more than patient and understanding when servers and bartenders are swamped. We are less understanding when we're ignored and treated with attitude.

While every seat was taken at the bar, it was not overly busy, as the bartenders were hanging out chatting with a server. After 10 minutes, we manage to flag down one of the bartenders, who looks annoyed, because we interrupted his conversation. We asked for a drink menu and one of my friends attempted to order a beer. After being told that they were out of the four beers that she tried to order, she asked if he could list which ones they're not out of. He rolled his eyes and went to check the cooler. With a limited beer selection, we said we may order some wine. He walked away and when we tried to flag him down again, he ignored us. The other bartender, who seemed nice, brought my friend a martini that she ordered, but he had to go and help the wait staff, so we waited for Mr. Personality to come back. I missed the interchange, but he said something really obnoxious and snippy to one of my friends, who is the most laid-back and easy-going among the three of us, and she began to put her coat on to leave. We followed suit, and said something to the hostess about the horrific service on the way out, and that we wouldn't be having dinner.

The manager followed us out the door, all apologies, and invited us to the Stoddard's opening party, taking my friend's email. He followed up with an apologetic email and let us know that we were invited to the opening party and would let us know the date. Needless to say, we never got the invite and Stoddard's is now open. So, as witnessed by many reviews, this place gets a lot of service complaints and he couldn't keep track of all the pissed-of patrons who he invited, or it's just another stellar example of how they don't take customer service seriously.
