Pumpkiinfest was awesome!. I went to the Tommy Doyle's First Annual Pumpkinfest last week, and it was the perfect way to kick off the fall! There were a handful of pumpkin flavored craft beers to taste throughout the night, but the Cape Ann Stout tapped directly out of a carved pumpkin was by far the most festive, and delicious. On top of that, the menu of pumpkin ravioli, butternut squash ravioli, turkey, and pumpkin pie was outstanding and went perfectly with the chosen beers, My friends and I loved the event, and will absolutely go back again soon for the live music and wide selection of beers and drinks!
Always a good time, surprisingly good food!. I've been here a bunch of times over the years. Usually friendly staff, good beer selection, and really good comfort food. I love their Shepherd's Pie, and my wife goes with the Reuben Stuffed Chicken. The one in the Square has three floors, with live music and dancing on the top, a bar with booths on the middle floor, and a cocktail lounge downstairs with a good selection of craft beers. No one will ever fill the House of Blues shoes, but TD's does an admirable job trying.
Terrible food, service, and atmosphere!.
A TERRIBLE experience. I went with my girlfriend on a Saturday around 2 Oclock for brunch. The hostess asked if we were there for brunch, and we said yes, and then she said go ahead and sit anywhere, so we did. The place was completely dead, only 2 other people in the whole room, and yet after waiting over 5 minutes we finally got our menus, and then the server disappeared for 10 minutes to get our coffee and water and we realized we only had lunch menus. We asked when she finally came back about brunch and she told us we weren't serving it anymore! This was even after calling earlier to double check the brunch times! We had a 'buywithme' coupon good for 30$ toward brunch so we asked if we could just use it for lunch since they lied and mislead us already to get us in there. They would not let us.
We should have left on the spot, but we decided to try a couple small things since we were there.
We tried the Celtic nachos and a bowl of chili. After waiting about 30 minutes in a dead restaurant for this crap they called food to come out, it was luke warm at best. The nachos were a greasy and salt pile; ie: bag of lays potato chips, package of shredded cheese thrown on a baking platter with maybe 5 little slivers of jalapeno. The chili might have been ok if it was hot.
Finally, when we were ready to pay we waited over 10 minutes for our server to come by to ask for the bill, after we got the bill we had to wait another 5-10 minutes for her to come back to pick it up with our card (this is all in a completely dead restaurant, and we even waved her down across the room at one point because it had been so long, and I guess she ignored us.)
I will never be going back to this place again. The atmosphere is dirty and dark as well, hardly inviting in anyway.
Luckily the one good thing that came out of our trip there was that The Red House right next door had .50cent oytsers that afternoon so we salvaged the day with awesome drinks there and a bunch of oysters and delicious app's.
Love this place!. No matter what night I go to Tommy Doyle's I have a blast! The staff is great, the drinks are perfect, and the crowd is a nice mix of people.
Fun parties!. "I've been here a few times, often for private parties hosted by friends, and have always had a great time. The upstairs room with dancefloor and bar is great, and the food is good too. I definitely would recommend TD's. I also hear they have an awesome Sunday brunch too that I really want to check out..."
great place for private events or random fun night.
I had my birthday party here in the fall, and it was easily one of the most fun nights I've had in Boston. I had originally planned on having my party elsewhere, but every other bar in the square was not accommodating for some reason.
The manager at TD's was great though--they definitely have experience hosting private parties, and basically took care of everything for me. It was exactly what I wanted, and required no work on my part.
All of my friends had a great time too--I guess everyone likes an open bar. But really, many people since have told me what a great time they had, and a few of my friends have had their party their since, and felt likewise.
Tommy's is also a great place to just go on thursday for a few drinks with friends. there is usually a good amount of people, and it's casual. definitely my favorite spot in the square.
Harvard Square find. I found this place by accident and have been coming back for 2 years...Harvard prepsters and town regulars mix surprisingly well in this cozy bar with old Boston knick-knacks that makes it feel like your grandmother's attic...surprisingly diverse (and good!) menu for a bar...get there early before the crowd takes over for the popular Fri and Sat night dance parties.
Great spot in Harvard Square. Great spot for a night out or for just chilling with friends...always a fun crowd, good music, great atmosphere. The staff is really welcoming and helpful. I don't make it all the way to the square every weekend, but when I do, my friends and I always end up at TDs.
Great night out!. Fun crowd, live bands, trivia. The staff is very attentive. TD's is great after work or for a night out! I would go back any night of the week!
Great Service, Good Times. Tommy Doyle's is the best place to meet new people and socialize in Cambridge. The atmosphere is lively and the bartenders deliver excellent service.
