Editorial Review for Main Streets Market and Cafe – by Gerrish Lopez

With its homey environs, including an area selling local souvenirs and crafts, Main Streets is a comfy spot for all-day breakfast (freshly-baked muffins, egg sandwiches, coffee drinks), homemade soups, deli wraps and grilled paninis. The tiny rear bar is one of the few spots in town where one can enjoy a glass of wine or mixed drink. Dinner service, offered Tuesday through Saturday, features upscale comfort fare like marinated steak tips, ginger-seared salmon and shrimp scampi.

Good enough for a stop and snack. Service is lacking, quality is lacking, menu is all on the wall - difficult to read, you wait in line like fast food and then sit at a table - that you hope has been cleaned - I'd pack up and sit in the park.

Pros: conveniently in down town Concord

Cons: noisy, messy - unwelcoming.

We visited the cafe on 4/22/08. From start to finish, the staff was unpleasant bordering on rude, greeting us with a brusque "next" -- no hi, no how are you, no smile. They took our order of two sandwiches, then made us wait for ten minutes while they made one sandwich. Only then did they tell us they were "out" of the other sandwich, so we had to re-order and wait again. (We did wonder how a cafe can run out of sandwiches at 11:30 am -- I guess they don't make all of them fresh.) The meal was supposed to come with a cookie, which they neglected to include. When we pointed this out, they did not apologize. They did at least give us a cookie, though not the kind we'd asked for. On the positive side, the two cheese/tomato paninis we ended up with were very good. I wouldn't give htem my money again, though.
