LOVE THIS PLACE. I saw this place on the Phantom Gourmet and decided I had to try it out! Since then I've been here a few times and the food is always excellent. The servers have also been friendly each time I've been there. I've been taking my friends here when we are at a loss as to what to do for the night and they have loved it as well. I would pretty much recommend this place to anyone.
Really Outstanding. Wandered in with friends just for drinks. Looked over the menu. Ordered a couple of tapas. As a previous commenter said, "Wow!" Ordered some more. We all thought that this restaurant's food is superior, delicious, creative, reasonably priced. And the service was excellent, including suggestions as requested. No dissent in our group, whatsoever. In fact, I live close enough... (But NO connection with it.)
Social subterranean lounge and tapas bar provides a quiet stretch of the Back Bay with some Latin flavor..
In Short
With its trendy decor, Spanish-themed libations and authentic tapas, BarLola satisfies both social butterflies and serious-minded diners. The Lolita, the house signature cocktail, combines Stoli, Gran Torres (a Spanish orange-flavored cordial), mango juice and fizzy cava. After-work types split pitchers of fruity sangria while nibbling on Spanish omelettes and squid stuffed with crabmeat and shrimp.
Move Over Dali... Best Tapas in Boston!.
The other reviews about this place are right on. It's excellent.
Our waiter was friendly, knowlegeable, and helpful -- willing and able to explain each dish, as well as the whole "tapas experience." You order dishes in groups and they're served when they're ready from the kitchen.
The selection of tapas are broad and varied. We ordered 7 dishes total for two people, we were STUFFED... Our waiter suggested we order 2 dishes each -- which is what we started with -- but we couldn't resist ordering a second round. Everything we had from the classic (such as the tortilla espanola) to the creative (the gambas rebozadas, fried ship with mango sauce) was outstanding.
The selection of Spanish wines is good, though pricey ($9 for a glass of Rioja seems a bit steep).
The food here beats Dali by a mile. Seriously. HIGHLY recommended.
WOW. Heard about this place from a friend...from a friend. Great garden level location on Commonwealth right near Copley T. The atmosphere is warm (nice reddish glow). Highly recommend getting a pitched of the Sangria (yum!). The Tapas were well prepared and worth the reasonable pricing! Go here is a foursome, each person order 2 tapas and get a pitcher of sangria. You can all share the plates and it will only cost you about $20 per person (and you get good drink while sampling 8 different items on the menu).
Worth Trying. This place is definitley worth trying. Friends and I decided to go there a few nights ago and we had a blast. It was a fun night. The food was excellent. We received the best service here. There is a wide range of food to choose from the menu and the cocktails were fabulous. I recommend this place. It's definitely worth trying.
super!.
Barlola was a treat! great food, great service, great value!
It's an unpretentious tapas bar with a good wine list, varied menu and reasonable tapa portions. we will be back!
Better than Spain!. I had a great experience at Barlola. The food is delicious - the tortilla and potatas were my favorites. I was with a vegetarian friend and they offer plenty of veggie options - and were more than accomodating in changing dishes to meet her needs. The service was great, too. We were seated promptly and our waiter was very attentive, but did not rush us. Including a $30 bottle of wine, the total bill was $72 for two of us. We thought that was an amazing value for the quality of the food.
Great Tapas at a Reasonable Price. I've been to BarLola a couple times now and I have to say, I'm impressed. I've tried probably 50-60% of the menu items and they were all very good. I've never had a problem getting a table, the waitstaff is extremely attentive and knowledgeable and best of all are the prices. Each plate is $6-10 dollars and the wine list is very reasonable, meaning that with 5 people, 2 bottles of wine, 10 plates and 2 desserts, it worked out to only $35 per person. Definitely check it out.
