In Short – Tucked away just off of emerging Washington St., this comfortable watering hole caters to everyone from construction workers to politicians. The bar is adorned with old campaign posters and MBTA signs. As for the service, anything beyond a brusque smile is a bonus. While there is a well-stocked bar, most patrons stick to bottles of domestic beers.
Cheese Whiz??
by DinnerThyme at Citysearch
I went here with friends a few Friday's ago, and was disappointed to say the least. I am a huge fan of local dive bars, but JJ Foley?s did not measure up. This website says there is no dress code, but the second we walked in the door, the bartender barked at one of my friends to have him turn his baseball cap around (all of us were well dressed?), we thought he was kidding with the stern voice, but realized, after he barked at us a second time, that he was serious. Nice. Where are we? A middle school dance??
Even after the rude greeting, we were still looking forward to some solid bar food?stay away from the nachos and the pizza. I am not sure when it became acceptable to use cheese whiz on nachos?? The place was pretty empty for a Friday night- there wasn?t one thing about this place that made me want to come back (and I am 100% Irish!)
- Pros: Easy to get a table...
- Cons: The bartendars, the nachos
Great Food, Friendly Staff!

I think the editorial review should be re visited!
We went to Foleys last Friday night for a birthday dinner, I thought the staff were so friendly, the food was great, I know they just started serving food a few months ago, and added an addition along with the new dining room (its so much nicer on the dining room side) but the bar is great for after work drinks, the juke box is the best!
Very reasonable prices for food and drinks and not bad cocktails either, I tried the cocktail special; candy cane martini, delicious!
- Pros: Service, Food, Very resonable prices
- Cons: Parking is a bit tough
Great Steak Fries
by jlib123 at Citysearch
We've ordered from here twice for lunch from work. The hamburgers were a good size and the steak fries were covered in spices and were huge. Almost a quarter of a potato per fry. So good. The chef salad and the salmon salad were both excellent. The salmon salad came with green goddess dressing, which I learned is from the 60s.
- Pros: Steak fries and salads.
