Editorial Review for Sibling Rivalry – by Eric Grossman
The Scene
True to its name, Sibling Rivalry provides patrons with a split menu in which two brothers offer different approaches to common ingredients. These aren't just any old siblings: Bob Kinkead is one of Washington, D.C.'s most recognizable chefs, while David has worked in some of Boston's finest kitchens. Tthe restaurant is a study in minimalist chic, with warm earth tones surrounding diners. Deftly efficient servers gladly point out the menu's numerous intricacies.
The Food
The Kinkeads have fun with the concept, dotting their respective menus with offbeat, multi-ethnic creations like halibut poached in olive oil with Sicilian sweet-and-sour eggplant, or grilled salmon filet with an Anaheim chile relleno and tomatillo-cilantro sauce. Typical of the numerous starters on offer is fresh squid, lightly fried Vietnamese-style and served with a clean-tasting green papaya salad and tangy ginger-cilantro dipping sauce. Rich desserts like a chocolate dacquoise with espresso-tinged Creme Anglaise are not for the timid.

I was not impressed with my experience at Sibling Rivalry. My boyfriend and I made reservations here in hopes to find a new restaurant to frequent. I had heard from a co-worker that this place was a lot of fun and she really liked it. Unfortunately, I can't share in her thoughts. When we arrived the hostess was friendly and checked us in. As we were waiting to get seated, the man who was going to be seating us walked up to us mumbling things like "are you kidding me?", and he generally just looked annoyed. He seemed as if he was trying to be nice, but we were wasting his time. Our server was nice, however I felt a little rushed, or like I was not of his normal caliber customer. I ordered what I thought would be good - the descriptions of the dishes were very descriptive (and I commend them for that). When I got my appetizer it smelled revolting and tasted even worse. And, no, I didn't order something with ingredients I had never had or disliked. The rest of the food was okay. Nothing to call home about. The general demeanor of the restaurant as the night went on became more and more apparent to me. I felt like I was among a snobby-too-good-for-anyone staff and I didn't feel like I fit in at all. When we were getting ready to leave, my boyfriend left a tip for what he thought was sufficient for the service we received. It was between 10 and 15%, so its not like we left nothing. As we were exiting the restaurant, not only did we see the waiter immediately pick up and open our check, but we heard him sneer and make some remark regarding the amount of the tip we gave him. If you are going to do that, at least keep it private so your guests do not see or hear you. I do not recommend going here, for the food or the experience. If you can handle the snobby attitudes of the staff and the pretentiousness of the place as a whole, by all means do go - they do offer an interesting menu unlike many other restaurants.
Pros: Interesting atypical menu
Cons: Average food for an above average price. Snobby staff/atmosphere.

This restaurant was the worst restaurant that I have ever eaten at in Boston. My food was completely undercooked and it took over 90 minutes for them to bring us our entrees. Two thumbs down and a 0 out of 5 rating for this restaurant.
