“If you have time for a slow, relaxing dinner, go to Picco's.”
User review by pineapplegirl. I've enjoyed pizza at Picco many times. Their salads were also quite nice. I had a great merlot the last time I was there. They seem to do a good job with their wine list, although it's rather small. I do agree with other users, however, that the service is terrible. Very, very slow. They are not rude or unfriendly, just SLOW. Beware if you go at lunch. You might be later than you expected getting back to the office.
I tried.... Last night I tried Picco for the third time with a group of friends. The first two times I had been frustrated with poor service and just "ok" food, but as my friends had had good experiences there, I agreed to go again. I won't make the mistake again. Twice now, my tiny $8.95 salad (ridiculous!) was drowning in dressing- and I like a lot of dressing. The Margherita pizza is bland. The service is consistently horrendous (slow, specifically- since they are usually friendly). I really wanted to like the place. I've been waiting for YEARS for a good pizza place to come to the South End. Unfortunately, this isn't it.
Service vs. Food. Unfortnuately the service takes away from the consistently super food. From sandwiches to pizza to ice cream everything is great, but the waiting, the incorrect order taking and the tortise like speed to get your order detracts from the food. If they get a competent wait staff Picco would be another gem for the South End...until then it is just a frustrating dinning experience.
Long Overdue. Bon Appetit Magazine recently named Picco one of the 50 Hot restaurants in the America for a reason... amazing food prepared with great care for incredibly reasonable prices. Long needed in the South End.
Great!.
The food my friend and I had was wonderful and complimented itself very well. Very relaxed cozy atmosphere too.
As for the other comments here, I LOVED the desserts! The fudge and chocolate ice cream are made from high-end dark chocolates, and are any chocolate-lover's dream. My friend had an amazing chocolate souffle'
And as for the comment on too many ice cream flavors, I wouldn't see that as a problem....
New Spot, Clean but....
Fairly new and still getting their kinks worked out so to say....
Pizzas are nice with thin crusts and generous toppings.
Ice cream is made on premises (you can see the batch freezer in the back). On the day I was there, there were ice crystals in all the flavors, so I assume it was 2-5 days old and not fresh. I hear their specialty is ginger. They had too many flavors.
Great.
Great, up-scale food in a comfortable setting. It's not too loud, dark, or any of those other restaurant cliches. The Boston Globe raved about it, so I checked it out and wasn't disappointed.
I've been there a few times, and everytime the staff or the owner are casually greeting people by name, so there are plenty of regulars, and I think that says a lot about an establishment.
Fantastic. I loved it. The food and ice cream were both excellent and the atmosphere and service were both great (the place itself is quite the sight). I think coming here is going to be habit forming. Very creative and flavorful dishes with a nice wine list to boot.
ice cream lovers beware!!!. being an ice cream lover, we were excited to try Picco - it had the cute look of a 50's soda shop... we thought it would be great... i didnt think it was possible to make bad hot fudge - but now i know it is - it was sour rather than rich and creamy. I am a chocolate ice cream lover - but Picco's was so bland and bitter that I just left it all in my dish. The vanilla malt ice cream had no malt flavor. In general the ice cream was icy rather then creamy. I cant say anything for the pizza and entrees since I only tried the ice cream. Picco may look nice on the exterior and be located in the South End, but that doesnt mean its good.
