Great food, Crappy service.
Mariposa has fantastic food: the bagels are superior ( chewy insides, crunchy outsides ), pretzels are amazing ( again, a mix of crispy/chewy/salty ) as well as the chocolate chip cookies ( buttery, crispy sides and soft centers ). I find myself craving these things just about every day!
However, I live just around the corner and in my several visits during the week I never fail to encounter snippy servers behind the counter. Regardless of the time of day - it could be during the early morning rush, or the mid morning/mid afternoon slumps - the counter workers make you feel like everything you order is a burden! I've worked as a waitress for over 3 years, first at a neighborhood diner and then at a chain restaurant, and I've never seen anything like this. The first time it happened I wrote it off as a chance encounter on a bad day, but after tipping regularly each of the 2 - 3 times a week I visit (I can't resist the bagels!) I know that it isn't.
Bottom line: If I could find bagels this good elsewhere nearby, I'd drop Mariposa in a second. Until then, my money will be begrudgingly spent there.

Mmmmmm.
The best scones ever! They're freshly made, and aren't flavorless like the ones at a lot of other bakeries. They also have great peanut butter cookies, biscotti, and muffins. Also, they have a wide selection of loose teas...try the organic jasmine pearl. It's where the old Cezanne bakery used to be...and while I liked Cezanne's low-key vibe a lot, Mariposa is becoming a quick favorite hang-out place.
