Go Boston Card needs updates and clear information posted .
by Double A at Citysearch
On line the Go Boston Card looked well worth it, but when we arrived in Boston and received the book, we were disappointed.
You must read the small small small print. Some tours are only 1 day (P-town traditional cruise sat night only). The Hyannis cruises you must drive 1 1/2 hours outside of Boston just to get the boat. We traveled to some museums that were closed, so the hours differ from the book and the actual museum.
We lost so much time trying to recover from all of glitches that we would have made out better just paying as we go.
RESPONSE TO si1960
by SDIEMP at Citysearch
Dear si1960, I’m very sorry to hear about the inconveniences you experienced while using our Card. I work for the company that produces the Go Boston Card. We are always interested in learning how we can improve our product.
The Card pick up locations are a specific area that we have been working to improve and we welcome feedback about the experience. This season we were able to open 6 locations in Boston to accommodate customers staying in Back Bay, Cambridge, Downtown, Waterfront and south of the city (in Hyannis on Cape Cod). We do offer some very inexpensive shipping options and recommend that if you have time prior to your trip, that you choose to have the car shipped. When you do this, you’ll also get the guidebook in advance so you can plan your activities and the best way to save money.
Boston is a seasonal destination and this does cause us some hiccups in the winter time with attractions that are seasonal. It looks like you may have traveled before the Duck Tours commenced their season. While we don’t advertise that as a cancellation, we do try our hardest to post the operating dates on our website and in the guidebook.
Your items #,5,6, 7 and 8 are all related and I apologize for the confusion. I hope I can clear up our policy for you and then I will go back to our partners at Travelocity and the City of Boston visitor Center as well as our own call center to ensure that they are aware of the policy.
We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are not happy with the Go Boston Card, it is our policy to work with you until you are satisfied that we have resolved your issue. When customers purchase the cards through a third party, we stand behind the third party with our guarantee. What this means is that when you make a purchase from Travelocity, they can work with you directly to resolve your problem and we will back up their commitment to provide the best service possible. I am making a note for our customer service manager, if you would like to call with your card numbers, we will of course, extend that guarantee on behalf of Travelocity.
Customers using Go Boston Cards most often save 55% or more on attractions during their visit. We do our best to provide exceptional service and additional benefits like skipping the line and added value with our shopping and dining discounts. I am always sorry to hear when someone has a poor experience, but take it as an opportunity to improve our business moving forward, so I thank you for your feedback.
Go Boston Card - Not Worth It at all!
by si1960 at Citysearch
Had horrible experience with this card - and would tell all friends never to consider it.
1. Limited pick-up location: First, consider that there may be VERY limited pick-up locations (a downtown MACYs) - this took us a VERY long time to get to.
2. Long wait at pick-up location: Second, once we got there, there were many, many people at a long line getting gifts wrapped - so much of our day was consumed - and e HAD TO PIXCK UP AND USE THE CARD THAT day.
3. Pick-up location to start of tour can be far: Then, we wanted to go on a Duck Tour (kids REALLY looking forward to this). But the tour pick-up location was NOT close to the card pick-up location.
4. Unavilability of key activity unannounced: Then, we were told while waiting that there was no Duck Tour; that it was cancelled. NOWHERE on the web site or any sign at stop (or in the main office by Bonston Commons) were there any signs or indication that the Duck Tour was cancelled.
5. Rudeness of people at Central Office by Boston Commons: When we went to the main office (by Bostron Commons) to complain and requested a refund of our unused cards, we were told that we could not and they were rude about it.
6. Lie by Person at Boston Commons about refund: then, a "nice" lady there (maybe just to "process" us out, told us we could call an 800 number to get a refund.
7. Refusal of Go Boston Card people: We called the 800 number and they said they would not give refund.
8. Travelocity unable to Contact: I then called Travelocity and they tried to contact the Go Boston people and they could not.
9. Limit of One Day Makes it Not Worthwhile: By the way, as the card HAD to be used on the particular day, there was NO way such a card would have been worth the value - we would have had to race from one place to another (unlike the attractions passes which give you more time). Nevertheless, this is a great profit scheme for the GO card poeple. 4. Many of the attractions were cheap, so the GO card did not help. Plus two of my kids always had free admittance at three of the attractions (three museums). The child cards are NOT worth the money.
10. Many of the advanatges of the card are not adavantages at all: If you buy the Beantown Trolley Tour you get free admittance to the Harbor Cruise. Many of the museums are free for kids or low cost.
Bottom line - bad product - and you will likely never get money back on unused card.
- Pros: Not much
- Cons: So Many - see below
A pain to pick up the card
by Lapidum at Citysearch
It's best to have the card mailed to you. The website is not clear on options. If you don't choose to pay the shipping you automatically have to pick up your card at a specified location. The subway price will be the same as what you would have paid in shipping. It cost $12.00 for all of us to ride the subway, so we didn't save anything picking it up ourselves. I'd say for two healthy adults using these cards would be worth the money because you can quickly move around the city. But if you have kids or elderly with you, then you will not get your money's worth. BUT I was happy I had the card when I saw the lines at the aquarium and we got to skip the lines and walk right in, that alone made it worth it.
- Pros: Free admittance
- Cons: Picking up the tickets, and vouchers.
GO Card Boston -Not as Advertised
by charlie121 at Citysearch
1. The design of the card is flawed. If you loose it, it cannot be deactivated, therefore the company cannot replace it. They get your money, but you cannot get yours back. BEWARE. I finally found their warning about lost cards in the back of their book -which you get after you bought and picked-up your cards. By the way, it cost me $6 to go pick up the cards -there went my discount.
2. I kept tabs of what the attractions cost was and did not get my money back. Even though we ran from place to place day to day to make sure we didn't loose too much money on the card. At the end it was like a race from attraction to attraction to justify our expense. Great profit scheme for the GO card folks. When you are traveling with children it is hard to keep going. If you research and plan your vacation costs, there is no benefit in getting this expensive and flawed product. Just use your credit card, if you loose it you don't loose your money.
3. It was very inconvenient to have to pick up the Beantown Trolley pass at one of two locations, and then go elsewhere to get on the trolley. The metro expense uses up any discount you think you are getting by having to go from place to place.
4. Many of the attractions were cheap, so the GO card did not help. Plus two of my kids always had free admittance at three of the attractions (three museums). The child cards are NOT worth the money.
5. For example, if you buy the Beantown Trolley Tour you get free admittance to the Harbor Cruise. The GO card book lists these as two attractions you can get admittance to. However, we would have been better off paying cash or using our credit card and gotten two activities with a single payment; and not given my hard earned money to the GO card folks.
6. Limited restaurant discount selection. Could never use it.
7. Museums are great and cheap, you do not need the GO card.
8. Transportation is great on the T, but the GO card does not cover transportation costs.
- Pros: Skipping the line at the Aquarium -but there was no line!
- Cons: Not worth the $. It's a race to break even.
