Editorial Review for Top Pot--Downtown – by Jill Lightner
The Scene
With a wall of glass overlooking Fifth Avenue--and the every-10-minutes monorail--the mod funkiness of the cafe combines with dreamy light filtering through trees, buildings and speeding trains. Sleek wood fixtures and concrete floors style this as the hippest coffee shop in town. The employees temper their hipness with genuine friendliness--not to mention serious talent at the espresso machine.
The Food
Don't be swayed by names like "Pink Feather Boa" and "Double Trouble"; these gussied-up cake doughnuts are often greasy, although the peppery-sweet flavor of mace shines in the unfrosted varieties. Airy raised doughnuts, like classic maple bars and lush cream-filled Bismarks, fare better and offer plenty of variety for the fickle. Sandwiches, all served on chewy rolls, are satisfying and flavorful; the smoky chipotle-laced Coyote and the herb-y tuna fish are equally tasty.

Insider Tips
Where to SitStudents take advantage of free Wi-Fi and hole up on the upper level for hours at a time. The front row next to the window makes the most of sunny mornings and is quieter than the outside street.
What to DrinkForget about fancy mochas or flavored coffees and warm up with a retro Ovaltine latte.

This is by far the best donut in seattle. The old fashioned are amazing!! The vibe here is just the right combination of hipster cool and childhood memories. The coffee is perfect and the variety of sweet choices will not disappoint. You can get these at Starbucks, but it is so much better to go to the source!
Pros: old fashioneds better than you remember them

However you spell it, however you say it... These doughnuts are simply to die for! I am not the biggest fan of sweets, but I'll enjoy a good pastry from time to time, and anytime I'm walking over to Capital Hill or Chinatown, Top P0t is a must-visit locale along the way. The doughnuts are just great! The coffee is pretty good as well. Starbucks has taken to serving them at different locations and they're a h!t there, as well. Krispie who? (P*t & h!t are forbidden?)
Pros: Great building, great doughnuts...
Cons: Doughnuts are in the top 10 worst foods for your health...
