“Rude & arrogant staff, slow service, horrible food - just a bad college bar”
great after-work crowd. good food, great drinks, excellent service... a fun stop on your way home from work or shopping. Try the portobello and goat cheese quesadillas!!
Stylish urbanites populate this handsome Back Bay haunt to sample its modern comfort food and pricey drinks..
The Scene
Housed in the high-profile former home of Barcode and Division Sixteen, Dillon's serves as one of Boylston Street's most fashionable eating and drinking spots. The front bar and sunken dining area, both awash in oak and mahogany, feature comfortable leather seating and retro fans. A bevy of flat-screen TVs keep sports enthusiasts engaged, while the designer cocktails' high price tags--the deathly sweet Bon Bon martini costs $10--force the collegiate set to head elsewhere.
The Food
Young waiters camp out at the bright open kitchen while waiting for upscale bar snacks like thin-crust pizzas and coconut-breaded shrimp. Straightforward nicoise salad, with its generous portion of seared tuna medallions, makes for an ideal starter. Barflies gravitate towards the juicy Black Angus burger, served with curly fries. Adventurous types skip sandwiches in favor of sweet pad thai or bland beef stroganoff. Rich chocolate-mousse cake is typical of the desserts.
Good joint. Dillon's is a pleasant break from the uppity Boylston St. You won't blow your shopping budget having a good meal & drinks. Some snack are only $3! I prefer to sit @ the front bar. The waitresses come by frequently & are pleasant. I've been there when it's been jammed packed (Marathon Monday) and on a quieter Tues night. As well as, I've taken out of town friends there. I've had nothing but good experiences. It a regular, normal place. A few steps downstairs leads into a dining area with a view of the open kitchen & most important, another bar Here's a secret: Dillon's has a sunken outdoor patio/bar just off of the main bar. Lots of fun in the summer.
A Nice Surprise. I went to Dillon's to meet a few girlfriends for some drinks and little did I know what a great place it is! I arrived late not planning on ordering food but after seeing what my friends were eating and how much they liked it I couldn't resist. The salads and the tapas are wonderful. I also really like how there is both a bar and a lounge/table area providing two totally different atmospheres. Make it a point to visit Dillon's or you will miss out!
Weekend Nights. The weekend nights at Dillon's have been unbelievable. Its a great place for young professionals to come down to after work grad some tapas and some drinks and relax. The best part of Dillons is its patio.
User review by stelladubish. Went here in a group of about 15 on a weeknight, thank goodness the place was nearly empty. We found the ambiance pleasant, the service amiable and patient, and the food delicious. We were disappointed by the portions of the tapas, however most of them were pretty cheap so we made up for it by ordering a second round of food. Drinks were pricy and nothing special. Overall a good experience.
Uninspired Food and Terrible Service. Dillon's has a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, so it's a shame that the food lacks flavor and the service lacks any sense of urgency. We order tapas and appetizers, which came in small portions and were average at best. The spinach artichoke dip was the worst I've had. Someone had the misguided idea of adding tomato sauce to it. The service was terrible. We had to wait 10-15 minutes to get a waiter and the same amount of time to get served. There are many better spots nearby.
lousy drinks, surly service.
wow, I used to like Barcode quite a bit. Truth be told, Dillon's looks quite a bit the same. However, I couldn't
believe how different the drinks were. Its probably just bad look but my fiancee had the worst apple martini of her life. Really, undrinkable. Myself, I had a flat, flavorless Dark & Stormy. How do you screw up ginger beer and rum?
The topper was the surly bartender who I wish I hadn't tipped.
So So. Resturaunt did not return several phone messages when attempting to make a reservation - Finally got through to someone and made a reservation for 20 people. I called to confirm the reservation on the day of the dinner, but no reservation had been written down. They did not have a problem accomodating a reservation for 20 on a Saturday night at 7:00 PM if that gives you some idea of how busy they are. Food was average, service was poor. The bar seemed to be more the reason to go to Barcode - It was filling up when we were leaving around 9PM.
A Classy Fun Place. This is a fantastic place for 30-somethings, who want to hang out at a very nice, modern and elegant place that is not too trendy, euro, but not too stuffy or college-bar like. It starts to get fairly crowded by 10, and there are a fair amount of people-watching to be had. A very easy place to meet new people, given its intimate and rather dark setting...but it's not uncomfortably crowded by any stretch of imagination. The food is absolutely great, as well are their martini. The food is probably one of the best among Boston bars.
