The Scene
Whether diners want to sit inside or out, or have a light bite or a full meal, Croma has all the bases covered. Inside, scores of young professionals spread out over two levels, surrounded by exposed brick and dark woods. When the weather agrees, expect the sidewalk patio to be filled with tourists and scenesters. The small bar area provides a perfect spot to sample from the international wine list. Unobtrusive servers make sure wine and water glasses stay filled.

The Food
It outfoxes area pizza spots by serving thin-crust pies in an astounding number of inventive varieties. Basic tomato-and-cheese pies are available, but adventurous diners are rewarded with flavorful concoctions like the Antara (Peking duck, scallions and hoisin sauce) and Melanzana (eggplant, sultanas, garlic oil, provolone, pine nuts). Also available are oven-baked pastas, fresh salads and divine desserts like a devilishly sweet sticky-toffee pudding.

I'm writing this review because my girlfriends and I were so disappointed. This place tried desperately hard to be yuppie, but came off as more "Jersey." Everything in there was dirty, the food was unimpressionable, and the Friday night crowd seemed to consist of only a skeezy manager and his entourage of two groupies. The only redeeming part of Croma was our waiter. But really, if you're looking to mingle with a more attractive and established crowd, I'd look elsewhere. You're in Boston. Experience a bar/ restaurant worth your time and money.

I have been to Croma many times since it opened and found it delightful in the beginning. However, if you are like most Bostonians and pay by credit card, please make sure you check your bank statement against your receipt. On two different instances I have been charged an extra 2 dollars, and even though this does not seem like a lot, if they are doing this for every customer, this adds up to alot of money for them. I spoke with one of the managers, Curtis, and he kept giving me the run around saying he would rectify the matter and when nothing was accomplished I asked to speak with their GM Brian. Curtis kept giving me the wrong day and times that the GM would be in the office and as you can imagine it became very frustrating. This is not a great way to run a business. A friend of mine who also frequents Croma, checked her bank statement, and they had in fact charged her an EXTRA 50 DOLLARS!!!! Even though the food is mildly good, it is not worth the extra hassle and phone calls in trying to get the correct bill total. Until certain mangers have been replaced, this is one establishment where I will not be endorsing to any of my friends!!! Buyer Beware!!!!!

All in all, we were disappointed with Croma. We've heard good things and we expected more. Still, I must say that the three of at the table who ordered pizza were very satisfied. All other dishes, including our appetizers and salads were MEDIOCRE AT BEST. The service was nothing to write home about. In general, the service was on the slow side, but not a big deal (more time to relax and enjoy the conversation!). We had to ask for napkins and silverware when our appetizers arrived. We also had to request salt and pepper. We're not certain we'll return to the Croma in Boston, but I would recommend Croma for pizza and drinks (basically, skip apps and salads). We will definitely give the Plymouth Croma a try when we're in that area. Maybe it was just a bad night ... or new cook, so definitely give this place a try and decide for yourself. We all thoroughly enjoyed the pizza--it was outstanding. The pizza are personal size, but on a larger scale in my opinion -- that is to say, a very healthy sized portion. The dough it airy and chewy with great combination for toppings. Tasty to say the least. In case you're interested, Croma opened in Plymouth recently. We'll definitely give the Plymouth Croma a try when we're in that area.
