The Scene
Older Cambridge coeds and young professionals head below street level to commune over filling, inexpensive rice dishes and bowls of noodle soup. Soft lighting and dutiful service add a slightly sophisticated air, as does an engaging wine list (beat the heat of the lethal curry dishes with a crisp New Zealand sauvignon blanc). Ex-pats and those who've visited Thailand enjoy the atmospheric Bangkok street souvenirs dotted throughout the restaurant.
The Food
In addition to basic Thai dishes like sweet pad thai and crunchy spring rolls, the menu features many authentic dishes rarely found on American shores. Unusual, adventurous dishes include miang kum (flavorful mounds of diced chicken, onion, peanut and mango, served on spinach leaves), khao tang na nang (crisp rice crackers served with shrimp and chicken dips) and kha pla (crispy minced fish marinated with fresh herbs). Order a round of honey-drizzled fried-banana bites for dessert.

Insider Tips
Save MoneySkip Harvard Square's many greasy spoons for a healthy and affordable lunch (dishes generally average between $6-$8).
Know Before You GoPay attention to the menu's spice notations, as many dishes are normally prepared with a ton of curry and spices. Any dish's spice quotient can be adjusted.
When to GoExpect a wait on weekend nights, especially when the universities host parents' weekends. Call ahead to see if a reservation's recommended.

I went with a girlfriend of mine for dinner. The place itself was nice and cozy. But the overall experience was not as good as I hoped. The water tasted very funny. I think because they put lemon in the water but it tasted like detergent kind of lemon, not so much natural lemon. I had to order a soda cos I couldn't stand the water. But I could still taste the strange lemon taste in that soda. The food was just okay. The seafood dish we ordered was not very fresh. The duck we ordered came in smaller portion than I thought. The chicken in the fried rice was dry and over cooked. The wait staff was just okay. They were not too friendly with us, no smile, no eye contact. Given the good review by other people, I might give it one more try if I pass by the area for lunch in the future (maybe I was just having bad luck that night). But I have tried much better Thai restaurants than this....

I love this restaurant--I go there at least a couple times a month. The lunch specials are an especially good deal--soup, appetizer, and entree for less than $8. My favorites are the pad thai and the green curry.
