Great facial, great massage, but I regret to say.... As you can see, I have a low rating and there is a reason for this. I had my first massage and facial a few weeks ago with my sister. We had a girls spa day to relax & unwind. We got our first facials and massages by Brad and Alanna. Both people had a very nice touch, were informative, and made us feel comfortable throughout the whole experience. The esthetician offered products we could both use at home (which we both bought) and our massage therapist offered self care ideas for the both of us. We were supposed to get our nails done too, but unfortunately the nail technician got into a car accident. Despite both of the schedules these two had, they agreed to extend our 25 minute sessions to 50 minute sessions. They went out of their way to give us the best experience possible and it was definitely worth the money. The reason why I gave this spa a low rating is because I called today to book another facial and massage for myself and was informed that Alanna, the massage therapist, and Brad, the esthetician, are no longer there! They would not give me contact information on either women and the girl at the desk seemed quite annoyed that I kept asking about them. I was so upset to hear this! If anyone knows where either of these people are please let me know! I think that if a business lets go of people who are kind and go out of there way, then the business is truly not doing something right! A friend of mine also comes here and tells me Becky is a good massage therapist, but I would have rather stuck to the same masseuse and facialist. My sister doesn't care, but I'm really not sure if I'll go back again.

Awful haircut & color!. I went to 30 Newbury to get my haircut & colored by Ed Blair. I am from out of town, Manhattan, NY to be exact, and everyone told me that Newbury street in Boston is the best place to get your hair cut/colored. After reading the reviews on here, I decided to check out this salon. First of all, when you walk in, it smells musty. There is absolutely no ambiance to the place. That should have been my warning to walk out, but I decided to give it a chance. The receptionist was unfriendly. She didn't even escort me to the waiting room. My hairdresser/the owner, Ed Blair, was late with no explanation or apology. He took me to his station where he consulted me about what I wanted done. I told him I wanted a pixie cut with blondish brown color. The color was fine, and we had somewhat of a conversation during, BUT the cut is where I REALLY started having difficulties with this place. During the cut he kept insisting almost insultingly, that I did not have the right face shape for a pixie cut, that it should be kept a little longer. I told him I absolutely wanted a pixie cut, but instead he gave me something that resembles a bob. And not a modern bob, but an old fashioned one. It's AWFUL! I thought I was going to cry after. I told him I was unhappy with the service and I did not want to pay for such a horrible cut. The color, when blowdryed, was also very streaky. He refused to even give me a discount for such a bad service. He told me he could do a redo the following week, but since he's the only hairdresser there, I refused to have him do my hair again. Instead, I paid, and as I was walking down the stairs, I noticed James Joseph Studio. I rushed in there and they corrected everything beautifully. So, don't make my mistake of going all the way up to the 4th floor of 30 Newbury to get an awful service with someone who clearly has no customer service skills. Go 2 floors below that to James Joseph. I think there is also Marc Harris in the same building. AVOID THE 4th FLOOR!

Do not get a facial here. I came here for my first facial about 6 months ago and after, my face was so broken out, tender & red. My face literally hurt for about two weeks after and the rash didn't clear up for weeks after that. I told the aesthetician that I had very sensitive skin and I did not want any exfoliant, but she did it anyway despite my plea. She told me I would be fine. Whoever owns this place should hire some people who are competent and who listen to their clients. I wouldn't know who owns this business because they never called me back despite the fact that I called more than 5 times asking to speak to a manager, or the owner. I was never called back. How unprofessional. Because of this I will never go to this spa again and I am hesitant to get a facial again.

Awful spa, bad customer service. I received a spa gift card from my boyfriend, so I decided to try 30 Newbury Spa. The gift card had enough to cover a facial, a 25 minute massage &a mani-pedi. I called the week before to confirm my appointment and asked if I could pay out of pocket to upgrade my massage to a 50 minute. When I got there I was sent to the waiting room where I waited 15 minutes for my massage to begin. My MT, Becky, greeted me unpleasantly, took me into the massage room & didn't come back for 10 minutes. The massage was average, not worth the money I paid for & I kept asking her for deeper pressure but she must not have been paying attention, considering I was trying to make light conversation & she responded with one word answers & clearly was disinterested. The sheets were also scratchy & stained in certain places. She stopped after 25 minutes telling me she was only scheduled for a 25 min when I paid for a 50 min. She told me I had to take it up with the owner. On to my facial-I waited another 10 for my esthetician, Sheryllynn to be ready. She greeted me somewhat unpleasantly but less than my MT. She took me in. I asked her to do some extractions and a scrub. She skipped the extractions, gave me a brief exfoliation, & a hurried massage on my face (I purposely skipped the face for the massage, so I could get one during my facial). Oh well, on to my mani-pedi-that was the only great part about this day, but not so much. My manicurist, Heidi, did a phenomenal job on my hands and feet, BUT she is not really a manicurist. They basically force her to do nails when she doesn't have any facials or massages. Despite that she is awesome and the only reason I would go back. Oh, & on my way out, the owner was screaming at a client in the open! He also looked scruffy in a t-shirt and jeans. He wouldn't comp me for my 1/2 hr lost on my massage! Complaints are in the works for that! Lets just say my boyfriend isn't too happy that he spent the money on a place that doesn't honor their services.

WORST SPA TO WORK FOR! CLIENTS BEWARE OF THE OWNER!. I implore you, DO NOT COME TO THIS SPA! DON'T HERE FOR A JOB! Most of the staff are impersonable, especially Edward Blair and his sister (the "Spa Director") LeeAnn. The owner is barely there (his book is mostly empty, as is his business), does not communicate with his staff, and always has a sour look on his face. He treated me like his personal assistant rather than a licensed professional, always forcing me to get him coffee. I've seen him go psycho on clients. He's also a creep. I had to give him a massage for my interview and he made me massage his glutes (which I normally don't have a problem with) except that he was trying to get me to massage areas where it is almost inappropriate, not genitals, but obviously close to that(BBB/OSHA complaint). The only people I can vouch for other than myself are Sarah (a great, overworked & probably underpaid receptionist) and Heidi (an esthetician/massage therapist). I worked here briefly and the way the owner has us treat customers is horrible! All we could do was greet the client, give them their service & escort them to the front desk to get checked out. So if you're wondering why your practitioner treats you crappy, it is because the owner wants you in and out fast so he can take your money. He doesn't care about you. They expect us to rush clients in and out, but really, there aren't too many clients that go in in the first place. The sheets are washed, but not heavy duty, so they are stained, a lot of them are ripped, the equipment is outdated. If you choose to apply there, its a measly 30% commission. Most places offer 40%.The owner bums around in jeans and a baseball cap half the time. He's a hairdresser btw. They expect you to do all the work, but give you no help. Their promises are empty. They are overpriced. Take it from someone who works on the inside--if your going to go to a spa, don't go to Newbury street! Find the time to travel to a small, quiet town. Chances are their prices are cheaper than this dump!
