Great Sub's Great Price. If you're looking for a good lunch and your downtown this is the place. AL's is like a fair priced Oasis in the middle a part of town where every lunch place rips you off. Fresh, quality, large subs. They should be charging more but I guess they make up for it in volume. Nice people as well. If you work downtown do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Fresh bread + great ingredients = Amazing Subs. So, as anyone who works downtown/in the Financial District knows, sub shops of a marginal nature aren't all that rare. I won't name names here but simple sandwiches/big chains abound and seem to attract crowds.

Als's, hand in hand with Sam Lagrassa's, sets the bar for the supreme lunchtime sandwich spot. You walk in the door (which may or may not have a line sticking out of it) and have 2 options: go left for hot subs, right for cold subs.

On the cold side, you've got the Al's take on many favorites with a little twist: fresh bread, amazingly fresh ingredients and talented sandwich-makers lined up shoulder to shoulder like an army ready for war. Highlight include the chicken salad, the roast beef (with BBQ sauce), the italian and the lady cafe special (mozz/basil/tomato).

On the hot side, everything is fresh made, again on that warm delicious bread. It's all good over there, but the steak pizzaiola blows it all away.

Small subs are huge and $5. Large subs are hangover-worthy and $7. Get a bag lunch (small sub/chips/soda) for $6.75. They also have amazing soups, served with half of loaf of the warm, fresh bread.

Did I mention the amazing warm, fresh bread?

Go go go go if you need a break from the boring lunch sandwich! Just don't linger at the counter too long!

Oh, and say hi to Al himself while you're there!

Best sub shop around!. Al's is a great place to go to pick up a sub. They have both hot and cold subs, and *very* generous portions. A "small" sub is nearly a foot long and costs only $3.75. And they don't scrimp with the toppings. If you ask for pickles or olives, you get a handful... you never have to ask for more. The line is often all the way out the door between 12 and 1pm, but don't be scared away -- it moves incredibly quickly. I am usually in and out within the span of 2 minutes. There's not much space to sit, so it's better if you're just looking for something to take out with you.
