The Scene
Located across the street from the Back Bay train station, this charming restaurant serves reasonably priced bistro fare to a mostly local crowd. The tiny bar offers a surprisingly extensive drink menu, including loads of fun mixed drinks like root beer cosmos. Friendly waitstaff scurry from the kitchen to the large outdoor patio and all points in between.
The Food
The menu attempts to spice up standard salads, pizzas and comfort dishes. Mozzarella and tomato salad comes drizzled with a pesto vinaigrette, while a simple thin-crust pizza is topped with chicken, caramelized onions and spinach. Entrees are huge, most large enough to share. Fresh fish, steak, pork loin and chicken dishes come with excellent side orders like garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and crunchy green beans. Homemade desserts are super sweet and humongous. A bargain for those with a sweet tooth, most involve copious amounts of chocolate, like the eight-layer mousse.

I had always heard great things about this place and after a long, exhausting night my fiance and I decided to go. We ordered margaritas but they just didn't do it for us...too sweet and no salt! The waitress took our order (she was very nice) of quesadillas and risotto. The quesadillas were good but the risotto was HORRIBLE!!! It was watery and the rice was way undercooked. As if this wasn't bad enough, as I'm eating this terrible risotto a critter (not allowed to say what type) starts crawling up the wall, threatening to belly-flop into my meal!!!! Now, as someone in the food industry, I understand that these things happen. I don't like them, but with all the animals out there seeking food and nourishment, I know that it's unrealistic to expect that other creatures will never seek out fine dining establishments. When we called the waitress over she was very apologetic and moved both us and the couple next to us to other tables and gave us dessert on the house. The manager (or someone in charge) came over an apologized as well. Too bad the dessert was really dry and bland!!!
Pros: very nice, caring staff
Cons: some items on menu are really not good

I have been here 3 or 4 times. My husband and I love that their wine list is only $10 above retail, and the location is very convenient. That said, the service is laughably bad. It seems that they only hire angry or ditsy staff. The last time we ordered club soda, and were brought water, when we asked for club soda, they brought us one cup and slammed it down on the table. They also brought us the wrong bottle of wine and the wrong pizza. This was surprising considering the waitress seemed to have written everything down. I much prefer their sister restaurant Laurel.
