Editorial Review for Gino's East – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
Lit with chandeliers, candles and the occasional drift of sunlight, every inch of this Chicago classic's dim interior is covered in customer-inscribed graffiti. The place gets packed with busfuls of out-of-town visitors and school groups; good thing service is on the ball and the waiting room is amply sized.

The Food
The pizza's polenta crust is light and crispy, and slices are so big it's difficult to stretch your mouth around them. Once you do, rich, creamy mozzarella and zesty tomato sauce await. Crumbled sausage, spicy and mouthwatering, makes for an even better topping. Gino's East also serves sandwiches and thin-crust pizza as well as monstrously sized pastas.

Fantastic pizza. Just what you would want from a Chicago pizza place. Watch out for long lines, but if you have a little extra time, it is well worth the wait. It has great atmosphere, and is nice to eat in if you don't mind a lot of people.

Pros: Great food

Cons: A lot of customers, meaning slower service

This is the first place we ate after arriving in Chicago. The atmosphere was quiet and comfortable, with memorabilia of Chicago throughout the restaurant. We were greeted and allowed to sit in the bar area. The pizza, what can I say about the pizza. We ordered the small famous Sausage and Cheese pizza, and we could only eat 2 slices of the 4 slice pizza. This was quite possibly the best pizza I have ever had. Price was higher than expected, but on vacation I expected to spend a little more, so no real suprise there. Definitely would return if in Chicago again. Have recommended to other persons visiting Chicago. Must visit.
