“The meal itself is incredibly affordable (2 glasses of wine, app, 2 entrees sub $60) yet the tastes didn't reflect it.”
“The food is great and I would recommend take out.”
“The menu is extensive, except among the appitizers, and the waitstaff is friendly and knowledgable.”

“it's generally pretty slow in there so the waiters are super attentive.”
for those who have'nt been to Shanti. We went to Shanti for friday afternoon buffet. The food was totally stale and pathetic. It seemed that food was a week old and refrigerated. No doubt the buffet is cheap @ $ 8 but its just not worth it. The veggies were tasteless and the chicken was not at all good. Only the Nans (bread) were fresh. I would never recommend this to anyone.
Very good Indian cuisine. Shanti is a very good Indian restaurant. The use of spice is great, I found the food to have a bit more veggies than most Indian restaurants I have been to, so it's not exactly typical Indian food. I would definitely return to Shanti!
Best Indian Food. Great place for lunch or dinner. You can really taste the true Indian dishes. I have traveled to India and can honestly say that the food at Shanti reminds me all the dishes I had in Bombay. The chef always surprises with new dishes and true Indian flavors. From a lot of Indian restaurants in Boston and the area this one is definitely the WINNER!!!! Very highly recommended. Plus the stuff is friendly.
Dorchester's Hidden Secret. I love this place!!!!! So good, I used to live in Dorchester and order from her all the time. And now that i live in South Boston, I found out that they deliver. Really a great place great food and service.
Its should be called Bangladeshi cuisine!. Being a foodie and an Indian I do not believe that this is authentic Indian food. For the seasoned Indian palate this retaurant is below average. Great service but the food is below average considering the fact that it is really not run by Indians and probably does not have an Indian chef ( they are from bangladesh). I have lived in Bangladesh myself and the style of cookling is from that part of the world. It will be fine for the non Indian but I made a long trip after looking at the online review and found the food very average.....but then I have eaten food prepared by the best tandoori and mughlai chefs from India so I might be a little too critical.
Great Indian food as a local option near Southie. We really like the food at this restaurant (although probably prefer the Indian food at Punjab (Arlington) or India Quality (Kenmore Square). But this is a fantastic local option for us. We always get take-out and the food is ready quickly. Watch out for delivery, however. We only tried to have the food delivered once and it took almost 2 hours to get here! We now always go to pick up the food ourselves. But it's worth it.
Fresh, affordable Indian fare has a home in Dorchester..
In Short
In promising a combination of classic and modern Indian cuisine, Shanti (Sanskrit for "peace") delivers a lengthy menu of the familiar and the unfamiliar. Highlights include a bargain lunch buffet, the contents of which change daily, and tender Tandoori specials that are marinated for 12 hours before being slow-cooked in the oven. As with any solid Indian restaurant, Shanti offers patrons to fine-tune their selections depending on how much heat they can take.
Great food, but not opened the week of 8/13..
I'm not attempting to say that a restaurant is exempt from vacation, but their restaurant should be available all year.
I attempted to purchase dinner at Shanti for this evening and learned that they went on vacation. (???) Good thing I called first.
I'm disappointed because I have to go elsewhere, but business must be good.
