Editorial Review for Marathon Sports – by Meredith Smith
In Short
Marathon Sports' unusually attentive salespeople help customers find their perfect shoe by sizing up their feet, analyzing their stride and then retreating to the depths of the store to produce the proper shoes. Customers can even take suggested models outside to the street for a test run. Beyond running shoes, others items on offer include running shorts, sports bras, socks, power bars, sport watches and running magazines.

It's unfortunate to hear that the other reviewers were so unsatisfied with their experience, b/c along with my friends and family I have shopped there for years and will never go anywhere else. The staff is so friendly and very knowledgeable. Despite the fact that I know nothing about running shoes they always made me feel like a runner.
Pros: Intelligent and welcoming
Cons: Tough parking

There are a lot of people on staff, which makes getting helped fairly easy, but it also means that not everyone is an expert and not everyone will be able to give good advice. The problem with this is that they all present themselves as experts. Please, go into Marathon Sports with the confidence to challenge what they tell you and do not take everything they say to heart. I am training for my first marathon and had to take a couple weeks off due to a knee injury and achilles soreness caused by improper shoe fitting at Marathon Sports. Smaller, more personal running stores will always beat the chains. Although, Marathon Sports started small and personal in 1975, it has grown into a chain and should be approached with caution. They do carry a wide range of brands a styles though. So if you know what you want, or just need generic, basic advice, they are good for you. If you are serious about running, or if you over pronate, under pronate, or have are prone to injuries, please look into finding a better running store that can offer you more personal and constructive advice.
Pros: Wide selection of running gear
Cons: Poor advice
