Best Wax in Boston. Erma's waxing is quick, painless and very affordable! I've been going to her once per month for more than five years and refuse to go anywhere else for my Brazilian wax. In fact, I recently moved out of the city and still commute 1.5 hours just to see her! She's incredibly professional, very friendly and uses hard wax so that she covers large areas in an effective and painless way. The salon is very conveniently located too. I'd highly recommend giving this place a try.
Best Brazilian Bikini and Eyebrow wax. Erma at El Coco Aveda is doing the best quick and painless Brazilian with hard wax for only $54.00. She also gives me the perfect eyebrow design and I get a lot of compliments. This is why I go to her for years and since she moved to El Coco Aveda I followed her .The salon has a very convenient location and a parking validation at Parcel 7 garage for only $1 an hour. Everyone at the salon is very friendly and professional . Great place to be pampered!!!
Best massage and facial. A friend recommended El Coco for a facials and massages so I booked an appoint was given the best massage by a friendly massage therapist named Autumn. She very good at what she does. I will be sure to go back!
Best mani/pedi with Autumn. I work in the financial district and I stopped at Elcoco to get a mani/pedi. It was THE BEST mani/ pedi I have ever had! Autumn gave my feet the best pedicure, I felt like I was walking on air when I left the salon. She is also a massage therapist and I could tell right away that she knew what she was doing., That was the best foot massage I have ever had. I'm going back to book an appt for a massage with her!
Don't go here for waxing, you'll be disappointed..
I used to live in the Boston area and recently came back for a visit (mid-August 2011). I needed a wax (Brazilian & half leg) and was able to get in on a Saturday morning with one day's notice- this should have been my first clue... The woman that did my wax, Erma, was pretty good with the Brazilian, though the wax was quite hot at times. I've been getting waxed for years now so I'm not new to the experience and I would have to say that this time for whatever reason I was super sensitive to the heat. There's no blistering or anything after the fact, so I survived ok. The leg waxing took quite a long time and I think could have been done more quickly if hard wax wasn't used.
While I think that Erma did a decent job- all the hair was gone at the end & redness disappeared after a day- the appointment did take 1.5hr (the waxing also included eyebrow & upper lip), which I think is a bit long.
Now on to why the experience was unpleasant... I am not from the area and chose this salon because of the advertisement of the use of Aveda products. I am committed to the brand and try to use natural products whenever I can, and am willing to pay a premium for this. Upon finishing the waxing, I would normally be treated to some Aveda products, like baby oil and lotion, and maybe even a light leg massage while these products are applied. This didn't happen at all. I was wiped clean with a baby wipe and doused with baby powder throughout the waxing. Then some cheap lotion was applied at the end. When Erma left the room to let me get myself presentable, I looked at these products to find that the baby powder came from Dollar General and the lotion was also some cheap brand I'd never heard of. I was upset but didn't want to insult Erma b/c she was a nice enough woman.
I called the shop when I got back to my hotel because I was so upset for paying the premium and not getting one single Aveda product. I was put through to the owner, George, who was not helpful at all. He said that I should have spoken up if there was a certain product I wanted, but how should I have done that- bounced out of the room half naked calling for baby oil and lotion? I feel like these products should already have been available in the room to save me that embarrassment, but they were not. He offered me 20% off my next service to compensate. Now, not only am I not from the area and not planning to be in Boston again in the near future, but why would I go back there to pay for services that are sub-par? He got very upset when I asked for a partial refund and wasn't really professional at all, telling me he couldn't well follow me around the country so I could get my discount.
Anyway, don't go here for waxing. The guy's gone cheap on products to pad his own pocket.
Excellent. I go here regularly for my haircuts - I always ask for Erica. She does an amazing job with cutting bangs! I also like that she takes the time & care to make sure the cut is just right.
Great Spa Experience!. I was BEYOND stressed thanks to the "holidays", and decided to get a facial and try to decompress a little. I was greeted by Sara and offered some tea (made by Aveda). The facial was amazing and I felt like a new woman at the end. The price was affordable and then I ended up getting a discount for being a new customer, so that was even better! Going back asap!
Best hair and spa services around. As soon as I walked into the salon the service was great! All the employees are so friendly and helpful, they even hang your coat up for you and ask you if you'd like a beverage while you wait for your appointment. I waited no longer than 5 minutes for my haircut with Allen. I didn't know what I wanted and Allen knew exactly what to do for me. Talked everything out before he actually cut it. LOVE IT and definately coming back as a regular! My sister came with me as well and got a foil with Shawn David. It came out amazing and we are definately coming back to El Coco for all our hair and spa services!
Good experience at El Coco. I don't really know what the last reviewer was going on about, because I get my very curly hair cut by Erica every 6-8 weeks and it is perfect every time. After years of disappointing hair cuts and clueless stylists it was refreshing to finally meet a stylist who knows what she is doing. Erica is extremely talented and has a lot to offer the salon. I totally recommend to her to anyone who wants a great cut!
WORST CUT EVER!!!!.
This rating is for Erica. When I called the salon I asked for a SENIOR stylist that was SKILLED with curly hair. The staff seem to think that bc a stylist has curly hair they can also cut it. I believe this is why they assured me several times that Erica was they most talented stylist for curly hair. I asked to have 1/2 inch trimmed and some layers to frame my face and instead I got very uneven layers and 4 inches gone!!!! I'm so scared to see my hair when it is dry. It will probably be 7 inches shorter!!! I was busy reading a magazine and didn't notice till it was too late. She did such a horrible job that another stylist tried to correct what she had just done. She gave me the WORST hair cut.
Meanwhile my husband got his hair done by Roberto. It was fabulous!!!!!! We will definitely be returning to him. He's super friendly and is a senior stylist that KNOWS what he's doing!!!" He really doesn't belong there bc he's too good.
