What People Are Saying About Spike's Junkyard Dogs

Featured Review

In Short – With its junkyard-inspired decor and canine-themed menu, this no frills joint may seem a bit over the top. But diners adjust for the fresh jumbo hot dogs, available in more than twenty varieties, including the Reuben Dog (Russian dressing, sauerkraut and swiss), the Samurai (teriyaki sauce and sautéed onions) and the Mexicali (salsa, pepperoncini and cheddar). Non-beef eaters can use the same menu to top fat-free veggie dogs. –

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Dog haters can satisfy their growling bellies with grilled or fried chicken sandwiches, pizza, subs, chili, buffalo wings, chicken tenders, greek and garden salads.
Save Money:
Opt for a meal deal, an entree selection that comes with soda and fries.

  1. recommend the Spikes Junkyard Dog with their own homemade spicy mustard, tomato, and hot pepper rings.
  2. The hot dogs are what Spike's is known for, but everything else is just as good - boneless buffalo chicken, steak and cheese subs (mmmm) and salads.
  3. The dogs are great but so are the chicken fingers and the rest of their menu.
  4. Great pizza and chicken too!
  5. Whats even better is that they are always fresh and served on a warm fresh crispy french roll.
  6. But most of all it's the fresh baked sub rolls the dogs are placed in that truly make this dog unique.
  7. Curly fries are excellent also.
  8. The atmosphere is really cute, and you can get a full meal for under $8.
  9. The smoked jumbo 100% all beef (or fat free veggie dogs) are the best I've ever had.
  10. The place is definitely known for the unique dogs and toppings, so get your chicken and pizza elsewhere.

Mmmm, hot dogs, buffalo chicken, and steak-and-cheese

Ohhh, Spike's, I love having you around the corner from my house. The hot dogs are what Spike's is known for, but everything else is just as good - boneless buffalo chicken, steak and cheese subs (mmmm) and salads. The atmosphere is really cute, and you can get a full meal for under $8. If you finish 6 hot dogs or burgers in one sitting, you get a T-shirt and a spot on the wall! A great dive-looking place for broke college kids like me.

Best hotdogs ever!

by bavsnob at Citysearch

The smoked jumbo 100% all beef (or fat free veggie dogs) are the best I've ever had. Whats even better is that they are always fresh and served on a warm fresh crispy french roll. Top it with anything you could possibly want, or just a plain Spike's dog on a bun you wont be dissapointed.

  • Pros: price, quality, fun atmosphere

Excellent Cheap Eats

by kfenol at Citysearch

This small Rhode Island chain makes its presence known in the Boston area. The place is definitely known for the unique dogs and toppings, so get your chicken and pizza elsewhere. The hot dogs are baked for a bit before served. Curly fries are excellent also. If you can grab a seat, the place is decent for people watching. The customers are so loyal they signed a petition to get city permission to keep the place open late. I definitely recommend hitting this place up after some beer and pool just a few buildings over. There's a parking lot just behind the liquor store one block over, but if that's full, you'll have to get creative with street parking.

  • Pros: Excellent Hot Dogs, Cheap Eats
  • Cons: Lack of parking

Best Hot Dogs in Boston

by deepfriedgoodness at Citysearch

It's worth trying to find a parking spot in that section of Allston or better yet hopping the Green Line over to Packards Corner for this little slice of heaven! They put things on a hot dog that you would never have imagined before, creating masterpieces! I recommend the Spikes Junkyard Dog with their own homemade spicy mustard, tomato, and hot pepper rings. But most of all it's the fresh baked sub rolls the dogs are placed in that truly make this dog unique.

Great pizza and chicken too!

  • Pros: Toppings, The Buns, Value
  • Cons: Limited Table Space, Difficult Parking
