Area gourmands and guests of the Hotel Commonwealth (many of whom have kids at nearby Boston University) fill an modern, nautically themed dining room and lounge marked by sky-high ceilings, deep hues and an ocean of cozy banquettes. The menu highlights local ingredients and rare, flown-in seafood, all put under delicious treatment. Commence the evening with Island Creek oysters with Szechuan peppercorn viniagrette or other sashimi creations. Flavorful entrees include prosciutto-wrapped cod with eggplant puree, or a lobster roll piled high on a housemade bun. Think again if you think you're leaving without devouring the chocolate-filled doughnuts with dulce de leche ice cream.

Pleasant and Relaxing Atmosphere, Helpful and knowledgeable staff, The menu is fantastic for any seafood lover - I would recommend:Crisp Calamari (If you like calamari - or even if you haven't in the past - this is guaranteed to be one of the best you've ever had) It is fresh calamari orange, arugula, and ginger vinaigrette - (Yes I know this dish well it is my favorite) Ive tried to achieve the dish on my own - It did not come close. . . The fish here is always perfectly tender - and the chef has put together some clever, tasty, dishes - sure to keep you coming back for more.

My girlfriend and I visited Boston this weekend and had one night to choose the perfect dinner spot. We definitely made the right decision by coming to Great Bay. The ambiance, service, food and music were all excellent, although the striped bass we ordered had olives, which were not mentioned on the menu. All the other items that we ate were spectacular however. I highly recommend the spicy halibut taco ceviche or any of their other ceviches since that is their specialty. The summer corn chowder soup with shrimp and chili oil was also amazing. I had the scallops with bacon which was a fantastic combination. The wine list is extensive and you can find everything from $34 domestic bottles to rare $600+ bottles of bubbly. All in all this place is a top notch restaurant and I would highly recommend it. Our only complaint was the olives with the striped bass, considering we despise olives and they were not listed on the menu!

I went to Great Bay for Restaurant Week and was disappointed. The portions were so small that after the three course meal, we were all still hungry. The food was fine and the decor was nice, but not worth the money. The regular menu entrees may offer more interesting recipes and regular portions, but we won't go back to find out.
