Editorial Review for Great Bay – by Eric Grossman
The Scene
Christopher Myers and Michael Schlow, the duo behind acclaimed Boston restaurants Radius and Via Matta, have another success on their hands with this trendy seafood establishment. Area gourmands and guests of the Hotel Commonwealth (many of whom have kids at nearby B.U.) fill an modern, nautically themed dining room and lounge marked by sky-high ceilings, deep blues and playful lighting fixtures. Courteous waiters recite the catch of the day. Don't miss the bar's killer house cocktails, including a remarkably smooth watermelon mojito.
The Food
The menu mirrors the hip culinary sensibilities of Great Bay's sister restaurants--familiar local fare and rare, flown-in seafood are given equally delicious treatment. Sweet cornmeal-crusted Duxbury oysters are a fine starter, as is just about anything from an impressive raw bar. Flavorful entrees include panko-crusted Chatham cod with house-made chorizo and olive oil-poached halibut with oyster sauce. Refreshing sorbets and a platter of warm cookies with ice milk are among the exceptional desserts on offer.

Insider Tips
ParkingKenmore Square parking is a nightmare, especially when the Sox are playing down the street. If there's a game, head to the hotel and use the $14 valet.
Save MoneyThe "Sand Dollar Menu," offered weekdays from 5pm to 6pm at the Island Bar (raw bar), includes spicy fish tacos, chilled Duxbury oysters and lobster-shrimp dumplings, all for $1 each.

I went to Great Bay for Restaurant Week and was disappointed. The portions were so small that after the three course meal, we were all still hungry. The food was fine and the decor was nice, but not worth the money. The regular menu entrees may offer more interesting recipes and regular portions, but we won't go back to find out.

There is nothing I don’t like about Great Bay. The only thing I could put my finger on is the “long walk” to the restroom. Great Bay serves some of the best seafood in Boston. It has a great and diverse menu. The Clam Chowder is the best in Boston, however, all their entrees are phenomenal. Service is always to high standard, and the décor is fun and unique. Go here for some of the best seafood in Boston.
Pros: Menu, service, wine, - seafood
