A must for after dinner sweets and champagne. We went to Finale to have a "little" desserr, and the two of us ended up sharing the TEMPTATION FOR TWO, which is an amazing chocolate plate featuring 5 Valrhona chocolates: Triangle of chocolate hazelnut cake, Dark Chocolate Decadence cake with honey caramel gelato, Molten Chocolate cake with an apricot sauce, nougat mousse in a white chocolate Florentine cup, and assorted baby cookies. Everything was so delicious and the molten cake just melted in our mouths. Top this off w/a glass of champagne and you are set for a romantic end to an evening. Our server was fabulous - I didn't catch her name, but she is probably the tiniest person I have ever met. Very helpful, very attentive.
rude management. firstly, they seated 5 of us at a 4 person booth. my friends and i spent $200 on dessert and drinks. a 6th friend met us at the restaurant while we were waiting for the server to bring us our change and sat down next to our booth. she couldn't have been there 5 minutes when the rude manager asked our 6th friend to leave claiming that it was unfair to our neighbors...i was astonished-- we spent a lot of money and it was not our fault that they had squeezed us in a space too small for our party. i will not go back...
A great date!. Finale has delicious desserts and a huge, often overwhelming, selection of drinks. The staff is upbeat and the atmosphere is perfect both inside and outside on the patio. This is a fantastic date place and would be fun to go with a small group of friends to celebrate a special occasion or just for fun.
#1 Restaurant in Harvard Square, hands down. I have lived in Harvard square for years... Finale is #1. Thier desserts are to die for, i find myself craving the Majari and Molton Chocolate cake constantly. The prelude menu is wonderful and light as well. The prices are just right for the quality, taste, and presentation of the desserts. Not to mention the service! The servers are all young, very good looking, and attentive. The managers are always present and willing to help with any customer request. THe Chefs create desserts in front of customers and are always offering smiles and explainations of desserts for interested customers. I find myself leaving at least 20% tip if not more for the excellent service and experience. Expect waits on weekends, so stop in ahead of time and put yoru name on a wait list, while you explore Harvard Square. THe organized hosts will call you when your table is ready.
Worth the wait, everytime... really!. From delicious weekday turkey-and-avacado sandwiches, to late-night weekend caramel pear sorbet in a pecan bowl, Finale offers good fare and impeccable service. Staff are prompt, accomodating, and interesting. Patio is fabulous in warm weather. I've had dates, reunion happy hours, and birthdays here (in addition to day-to-day visits) -- great place.
Very Very Bad Service. The waitstaff was very impolite. When we didn't order a lot of food I guess (3 persons 2 desserts and 3 drinks), she roll her eyes, shake her head and took our menu with force. Although we left her 20% tips, we won't go back again.
Wonderful chocolate molten cake. The desserts here are amazing, although a bit overpriced. If you come at night, expect to spend $10 per dessert. Instead, I would recommend going in the afternoon, ordering from the counter and taking your coffee and dessert to the table to eat. The nighttime desserts are pricey but you don't get much more than what you would get in ordering straight from the counter. Definitely try the tiramisu, the chocolate molten cake and the lemon tart.
Defense!. Admittedly, I can only vouch for the Molton Chocolate - their Signature Dessert - and the Valrhona Hot Chocolate, but that's all I go here for, and both are consistently wonderful. Just as my friends are incredulous that I spend 4-5 dollars on a bar of quality dark chocolate (stop by nearby Cardullo's to get some), others can't imagine paying $12+ dollars for a mere dessert. With both Finale and my pretentious dark chocolate, friends are too busy moaning, awash in Chocolate Endorphins, to be incredulous. Skip the fruit, cheesecake, coffee, sandwiches, etc. Come for chocolate - and eat *slowly!* - you will not be disappointed.
Outstanding dessert spot.. Finale's desserts rival those of any top restaurant I've been to in Boston. They use the best ingredients, and their presentation is flawless. My only criticism would be that their dessert dishes often combine too many tastes, since each dish has 3-6 different items on it, joined by a single ingredient or theme. This almost guarantees you'll get one item you don't like as much en route to getting three that you love. But that's a minor quibble - if you love rich desserts, if you love good chocolate, if you're like me and you enjoy making good desserts and like to see how a professional at the top of his/her game does it, Finale is the place.
SO not worth the money. We went here expecting FABULOUS dessert and were served mediocre ones at ENORMOUS prices!! my creme brule was so generic and my boyfriend's cheesecake was pathetically small (even by fine dining standards) and had no crust. We were so dissapointed and felt incredibly ripped off. This location will last maybe 6 months. Don't go.
