Underrated Bar for Film Noir-types.
Even if Noir often ends up being my back-up-plan as opposed to my go-to bar, it still remains one of the best places to meet for a post-work cocktail or a late-night rendezvous. Maybe I’m just a sucker for the film noir theme, but it’s more likely due to the fact that this place is convenient, affordable and has just the right amount swank.
The cocktails are always tops and the bar menu has just the right amount of good eats to make sure those drinks don’t go right to your head. In the dead of Winter, it can be easy to forget it exists, as it’s tucked into a tiny little corner of the Charles Hotel. Come bird-and-bee-time, however, it’s a swell place to sit outside with a martini and a clove cigarette, looking all dark and mysterious.
Cheap Food, Good Cocktails in a Dark Lounge.
Monday through Thursday from 5-7pm, Noir offers their food menu at prices ranging from $0-5. It's amazingly easy to cobble together a meal from all the offerings. Drinks are pricier, mostly running over $10, but are well worth it for the combination of classics and unique seasonal libations. If you price it right, you can get out of Noir with dinner for under $20.
The room itself is not particularly comfortable, but if you're looking for a dark corner to enjoy your drinks in, you've found your place. Of course, if you also want to see what you're drinking, you're out of luck.
FOOD POlSONlNG!!!!!.
The first time I went there, I had a good experience. Good drinks and a nice atmosphere, but very slow service.
The second time, was not so great. My sister and I got food p0isoning that lasted over a week (throwing up, dlarrhea, & abdominal pains that put me in tears). This is not what I expected from my $100 bill. Definitely stay away from the food (it was only average anyways). We narrowed it down to the lettuce. They probably didn't wash their hands after bathroom use.
The service was again slow and there was only one other table besides us. There are much better hotel bars in Boston. I won't be going back to this one.
Great place to end the night.. I like Noir primarily as a great bar to end an evening of bar-hopping or after a late dinner. Their drinks are consistently good and the staff has always been courteous if not outright chipper. It's a lot more than I would have ever expected from a place that's sort of a hotel bar.
Best romantic bar? I don't think so.. I specifically chose this lounge because it was supposedly very romantic. Not so much. We walked in at probably 10:30 on a Saturday night. It was full of college students and the music was blaring. The place was tiny. I don't know. Everyone I was with was in disbelief that Noir was voted best anything. I didn't try their food because we had just eaten but they did have a very original and extensive (and expensive) drink menu. It just wasn't the atmosphere I was expecting or looking for. Don't go there if you're looking for romance.
serves drinks the latest. This bar is pretty swanky compared to the rest of the square. It's a bit small, but is comfy and chill. Clientelle is a diverse crowd which is pretty cool.
5-4-3-2-1. Agree with prior reviewers about the excellent (but expensive) drinks. The key is to show up between 5 and 7 p.m. on weeknights, when the food is all steeply discounted (everything $5 or less). Definitely worth a trip.
Late night drinks cool ambiance. Friendly service, great patio, and interesting cocktails. This place is a cool spot for a date or a place to start or end your night. Know most of the staff, they are knowledgable and fun. Only place in square open till 2am EVERY night. Not bad. Crowd gets a little rowdy late at night. For most part though, it's clientele comprised of hotel patrons and older people. Good martinis and cocktails. Recommended
Great Happy Hour menu. I agree with the other reviewer regarding RUDE waitresses, but if you can get past that and I try to, being that the eats are great and reasonably priced at Happy Hour, between 5 and 7 pm, M-F, it's worth trying. Yes the drinks aren't cheap at $10, but everything's expensive these days! Hey if you get tude, give it back and then don't give a tip if you don't get excellent service. See you there!
Romantic hotel bar serves killer drinks in dark, seductive environs..
Anyone looking for a romantic hideaway perfect for carrying on a forbidden affair should look no further than the aptly named Noir (the only fixtures that aren't black are the red lamps). High-backed black banquettes are ideal for canoodling, as is the hipster soundtrack. Vixenish, black-clad cocktail waitresses pass out pocket flashlights to those who have trouble reading the menu. Libation lovers should feel right at home here, as the drink menu is full of stylish signature martinis--think St. Germain-blood orange and Chartreuse-basil concoctions--and "Film Noir Drinks" ("Noir's Boudoir" combines vanilla vodka, Godiva liqueur, Kahlua, cream, and chocolate-covered espresso beans for a sinful pleasure).
