Editorial Review for Noir – by Eric Grossman
The Scene
Anyone looking for a romantic hideaway perfect for carrying on a forbidden affair should look no further than the aptly named Noir (the only fixtures that aren't black are the red lamps). High-backed black banquettes are ideal for canoodling, as is the hipster soundtrack. Vixenish, black-clad cocktail waitresses pass out pocket flashlights to those who have trouble reading the menu.
The Draw
Libation lovers should feel right at home here, as the drink menu is full of stylish signature martinis--think caramel-apple and strawberry-basil concoctions--and "Film Noir Drinks" ("Noir's Boudoir" combines vanilla vodka, Godiva liqueur, Kahlua, cream, and chocolate-covered espresso beans for a sinful pleasure). The bar menu, designed by Rialto's Jody Adams, consists of upscale noshes like crudites with ginger-water chestnut dip and a duck, Gruyere and cranberry chutney sandwich.

Insider Tips
Save MoneyThis isn't the place for a cheap night out, as most drinks cost around $10. Those on a budget looking to take in the scene might consider a few Coronas.
What to DrinkThose looking for a savory drink should try the Blue Cheese martini, which is shaken tableside and comes with pungent, hand-stuffed Cachael olives.

I specifically chose this lounge because it was supposedly very romantic. Not so much. We walked in at probably 10:30 on a Saturday night. It was full of college students and the music was blaring. The place was tiny. I don't know. Everyone I was with was in disbelief that Noir was voted best anything. I didn't try their food because we had just eaten but they did have a very original and extensive (and expensive) drink menu. It just wasn't the atmosphere I was expecting or looking for. Don't go there if you're looking for romance.
Pros: yummy and original drinks
Cons: too small, too loud, not romantic, $12 drinks

This bar is pretty swanky compared to the rest of the square. It's a bit small, but is comfy and chill. Clientelle is a diverse crowd which is pretty cool.
Pros: only bar in cambrdige that servces alcohol after 1:30
Cons: a bit pricy
