“The decor consists of everything beer-related, and you can't go wrong w/ any of the food here - the portions are huge for a decent price (i.e. nachos for $8).”
“The beer, like Sunset Grille on Allston is fantastic!”
“The food is amazing, and I loooove the margaritas.”
“the food was decent and i enjoyed the extensive beer list.”
“Sunset has some absurd amount of beers on tap and plenty other drinks, making it a great place to go with friends to hang out on a night off.”
“We go back knowing it will be horrible and expecting it, only because we love the nachos.”
“If you enjoy being served by rude waitresses, having margaritas with no alcohol and overcrowded places, then that's the place for you.”
“The drinks here are not too expensive, and they often forget to card under 21's.”
“The bartenders were all very slow, it wasn't even that crowded and yet it took us a while to get drinks.”
Crowded but Excellent. We went to Sunset Cantina for the first time on a busy Friday night and only had a 20 minute wait, though it ended up being spent in the crowded bar - be ready to jockey for position to get a drink while waiting. They have an extensive tequila list and some different margaritas, but I have to say that you'd be hard pressed to find one that is better than their more "mainstream" margaritas. We started off with nachos with chili - the nachos were great, and the chili was a little sweeter than I was anticipating, but still good. Unfortunately, the chili was at the BOTTOM of the plate, so it took a while to get to it. For the main course, the jambalya fajitas were great - they have some of the best fajita spices and sauce I've ever had. The ranchero steak enchilada was good, but a little more flavor would have been appreciated, as would have veggies that had been cooked a bit more. It is a fun place with good margaritas, some different variations on it, a big menu and lots of fun.
Group Tips.
I didn't know a party of 4 automatically ended up with 18% gratuity on the tab??
I thought its always a party of 6 and over?? I am never cheap on tips, I just thought that was unnecessary.. and rude.
User review by priscilla123. I love the Sunset Cantina! I also love tequila, and the Citysearch review says they have about 30 tequilas, but the last time i was there, the bartender told me they had over 100 different kinds! It's a great place to sit outside and enjoy a delicious margarita while watching the Comm. Ave. action. My favorite thing is the taco buffet thay have at lunch. SOOO much food!
Good for Beer, Bad for Margaritas.
The beer, like Sunset Grille on Allston is fantastic! Go here if you want a fun atmosphere, enjoy pub grub appetizers and good beer, but no more than that. Lots of times, that's enough....and I would most definitely come back for the beer!
Downside is they claim to have Boston's Best Margaritas - that turned out to be a farse. Between all of my friends, we each got to try at least 4 types from their margarita menu and they were all awful. I could make a better margarita at home. Food was also not at all impressive. Don't go here if you want real Mexican and Southwestern. I ordered a steak called "Like Buttah" - claimed to melt in your mouth - I ordered medium rare, got it so totally well done and it was more "Like Rubbah."
My favorite-though service sucks!. Sunset is my absolute favorite for the food alone. It is perfect hangover food, and is great at making you feel 10 pounds heavier afterwards. I went to Sunset at least once a week when I lived in Boston, and make a point of going whenever I am back visiting. The servers tend to be poorly trained and over-sat, but they usually try their hardest. Don't go for the service, go for the spinach/artichoke dip!
amazing. I go to Sunset all the time - I'm there at least once or twice per week. The food is amazing, and I loooove the margaritas. The waitstaff is very friendly, and service is fairly fast (unless they're ridiculously crowded - and then service is medium). I would take anybody there any day. It is the best restaurant ever!
margalicious. Love the margaritas, have had quite a few different ones on there menu. The food has been real good too, they have there own way of doing stuff ,like nachos and spinach artichoke dip.reminds me of a roadhouse down south but in the middle of comm ave.
Disappointing. We went there because we thought they would make a good margarita but unfortunately we were wrong. The drinks our server gave us were not the ones we ordered, and instead of remaking them, they just added other ingredients. Because they have different people taking the order, running the drinks, and running the food, it is hard to get issues corrected. Also, the food was mediocre.
BEER & MARGARITAS. THIS PLACE HAS AN INCREDIBLE BEER AND TEQUILA SELECTION ! NOT JUST TYPICAL ONES IN MOST PLACES. FOOD WAS REALLY GOOD TOO. RECOMMEND FAJITAS HUGE WITH A REALLY FLAVORFUL SAUCE ALSO GOOD BURGERS AND TOO MUCH STUFF NEED TO GO BACK AND TRY.FUN ATMOSPHERE AND EASY IN AND OUT - GREAT SPOT
Bar scene a bust!. We decided to go here to start off on Cinco de Mayo, and got off to a horrible start! The bartenders were all very slow, it wasn't even that crowded and yet it took us a while to get drinks. They all looked miserable, were busy doing nothing, and to top it off MADE THE WORST MARGARITA I HAVE EVER HAD! From a place that got voted 'best margarita' last year, they definitely don't hold up their reputation. And shouldn't cinco de Mayo be their best day/night??? Needless to say, we didn't stay for food. Will never return.
