Hidden charges. Amazing. Made a reservation on what seemed like a cheap van rental. Arrived and had to wait 1.5 hours and got a diesel truck. Credit card was immediately charged $200 deposit (which they didn't mention), then I was refunded the difference several days later.

The difference however included $30 for insurance, $15 tax, $6 EPA, etc. None of which were mentioned either in my reservation quote or in person.

Suddenly the good deal was worse than any other truck rental and I even drove out of my way to get to them.

Avoid.

Not worth the supposed savings. I recently rented a truck from Ryder to help move my sister in CT, which meant I had to drive from MA to CT and back to return the truck.

I picked up the truck on Saturday morning and was told I could return it by Sunday. My first warning sign was that the check engine light was on, and the truck did not start up initially. I asked the staff about this, and they told me "don't worry until the check engine light is red". Right there I knew something was off, but I had little time to think about it.

The night after the move there was a snow storm on the way back from CT to MA. I was driving 30 mph on the Mass Pike and swerving while people were passing me left and right. I got off the highway and inspected the tires to find that there was not a single tread still visible! I was nearly stuck between home and my sister's place because of the poor quality of the vehicle!

After a harrowing drive home, we managed to return the truck by using the key drop on Saturday night. One week fromt he return I have still not been credited for my $200 deposit on the vehicle. This was easily the worst truck rental experience that I have had. I will never use Ryder again.

Stay Away!!!. I recently used Ryder to move to South Boston, and thought it was great since there was a location right around the corner. In the past, I have used UHAUL and have had great success, but thought since I wouldn't have to go far to return the truck, I would try Ryder this time.

BIG MISTAKE.

After initial inconveniences when I went to pick up the truck (they couldn't find my reservation, then couldn't find the keys to the truck, which led to it taking over an hour to pick up the rental truck), the biggest problem I had was with leaving them my debit card number, which was required for the rental.

I am so glad that I checked my checking account information. What should have been about a $100 rental was charged to my card as $230. When I called to ask about this, the representative was very vague and rude. He told me those charges were right, because I had traveled 109 miles, when in fact, I had only traveed, at most, 30 miles! I explained this to him, and he told me he would refund my card. He was never able to give me specific information on how or why those charges were applied to my card. It is now a few days later, and I'm seeing another $53 charge to my account. I just called again, spoke to the same person, who was even more rude, and he just said, "Those amounts are right." Very frustrating.

And, to top it all off, Ryder is way more expensive than UHAUL.
