Slightly more upscale than its sister restaurant, Cambridge's popular Aspasia, Ariadne features a stylish cocktail lounge (complete with illuminated bar top) and an elegantly appointed dining room that rivals those of the city's classier restaurants. Attentive waiters keep the atmosphere cordial, while soft lighting and rich colors make the dining room suitable for celebrating a special occasion.
The Food
With a lengthy menu divided into small, medium and large plates, Ariadne offers its patrons a plethora of culinary options. Most medium plates (potato gnocchi with sweet corn cream; a seafood roll of fresh lobster, shrimp and crab) can be shared as a starter or viewed as an entree. The kitchen's Mediterranean bent comes out the accompaniments of braised lamb shank (broccoli rabe, tzatziki, and bulghur wheat) and striped bass (tomatoes, broccoli rabe, beluga lentils and preserved lemons). Exceptionally rich desserts include butterscotch creme brulee and a warm apple crostada with caramel sauce.

I'd love to have a great eating establishment to go to locally in Newtonville, the town needs a place that is reasonable, fun, has good food and pleasant service. Ariadne is currently not the place. Historically the food has been good, and even excellent at times. However have found that the food has dropped in quality and for the pricing is not up to par. The service is lacking and personally witnessed an extreme lack of attention and bad attitude to customers. This has been taken to extreme at times where the wait staff is serving themselves food and drink before tending to dining customers. The location is not easy and am sure can be slow at times, but that doesn't make poor service, OK food, and an overall bad time acceptable.

Stopping in for a casual meal, we sat at the beautiful, under-lit marble bar top enjoyed a cucumber mojito and the perfect martini. The Mediterranean Plate app. was all we thought we would have, delicious tastes of Greece with other Arabic influence, lovely bread. We couldn't stop - we ordered the Seafood Paella. The best ever - generous seafood, cilantro, in a risotto like stew was full of flavor. So we had to try the Bolognese - OFF THE HOOK! Fresh pasta, light meaty sauce....rich and delicious, quite possibly better than Bolognese I ate in Bologna. For dessert we had the Peach Chrisp with a late Harvest Chardonnay. My wife had to pull me out, I was ready to keep going - after all I hadn't tried the Lamb! Christos - owner/chef was on the bar last night and we had very attentive and helpful service - it actually felt as if the man who built the restaurant with his hands, designed and made the food - I just assumed he made the wine and brewed the beer too - was giving us insight into his finest work. I dont remember what I cost - it was the type of place where you sign the bill without looking, because whatever it cost it was worth it. I look forward to returning! Highly overrated and unreasonably overpriced. Inattentive "service" -- if you can even call it that. Don't waste your money here. Sure to disappoint....

When to Go:
Monday nights get a kick from live jazz performances and $5 martinis.
Parking:
On those rare times when on-street parking is hard to find, there's a free lot in back.
