The Scene
Each Joe's location handles a steady flow of hungry families and casual couples tired of national chains' bland cuisine and soulless atmospheres. While most nights bring standing-room crowds, waiting for a table can be avoided by sitting at the bar (the better to sample from a surprisingly varied, yet affordable, wine list). Servers, while kept in constant motion by the hungry masses, manage to keep baskets of spongy focaccia filled.
The Food
While most diners come for the eclectic, stone hearth oven-baked pizzas (shrimp and artichoke, spicy "voodoo" chicken), it's a mistake to ignore the rest of the varied menu. Start with a freshly-made cobb salad; full of grilled chicken, applewood-smoked bacon, and avocado, the heaping plate is large enough for three diners. Entrees consist of casual (savory Black Angus meatloaf) and contemporary (Mediterranean salmon with balsamic tomato-caper relish) options. Mammoth desserts include kid-approved favorites like strawberry shortcake.

It was a busy Memorial Day weekend, and with in the Indiana Jones debuting right next door I thought grabbing a bite at "Not Your Average Joes" in Methuen might leave of a bad taste in my mouth. We requested to sit outside, it was overcasts, with the chance of showers, but we gave it a shot anyway. On the patio we enjoyed a few drinks with appetizers ,then the rain came. The resturaunt crew instantly moved us with our drinks inside to a good location with no fuss or confusion. If other resturaunts are looking how a wait staff is suppose to be, they should take a lesson from "Not You Average Joes" The wait staff was very gracious, polite while busting there butts. I even saw the manager making the rounds making sure every one was satisfied with there meal.I think Ill use the word "superb" to describe them Since dinner was going so well,we decided to skip the movie and ended a spending more than three hours at thre resturaunt. The couple next to us I guess had some problem with there meal (I didnt get the details) The waitress replaced it ASAP ,politely ,and then the manager came over to make sure the customer was happy, thats a place I want to go. Good food, a great atmosphre ...everyone was at the top of there game. Now heres the best part, the bill. It was a fraction of what I thought it was going to be, so I increased the tip for our waitress who was outstanding...she thanked me repeatedly This place is a mold of how resturaunts are suppose to operate.Good food, friendliest atmosphere, and a manager that was generally concerened about his customers and waitstaff. Ive been to other "Joe" resturaunts in the Boston area where the service is slow and theres not any kind of atmosphere...I should call them "Below Average Joes" but this place his hardly below. Thank you again for a great night out... with many more to come
Pros: Great Wait Staff, Easy Parking,Just a great Place
Cons: Its more than 80 miles from my house
