The Scene – With a strong background in hatha yoga, Bikram Choudhury spent years with doctors and scientists perfecting his own system. In 1974, he opened the Yoga College of India in Beverly Hills. The method is a rigorous and demanding workout that will put even highly trained athletes to the test. A 95-degree studio keeps students sweating while they perform a series of 26 traditional asanas (poses) in reps, with continuous verbal direction from attentive teachers. Every muscle, joint, organ, and pore is affected. It isn't particularly peaceful in the moment, but afterward, you'll…

I have been practicing all types of yoga for 10 years...Specifically Bikram...You have to be tough to go into this studio! Everything people are saying is very true...Bikram in most other studios is pleasant and relaxing as hard as the pracitce may be...but there is nothing relaxing getting shouted at on a super mike!! Any studio you go to WILL not be that way...The instructors are rude and get mad if you need to lie down or leave the room...even I who has practiced for many years knows my limit and realises that you have to be one with yourself..however if you don't feel comfortable for whatever reason and need to leave the room than so be it...and if you need to sip water out of a pose than do it quietly.. especially for beginers you havet to start somewhere..I have seen the instructors be mean and pick on people instead of help..I will go back out of convienince and I get Bikram so I can practice anywhere and no one will make me feel bad if I need to lie down or step out...I am looking for another studio and may even open my own!! I'll let you all know..btw I could give a r#ts a## about the carpet that is how I learned in a carpeted studio..I mostly think the owner and instructors are condecending and rude...not nice to new people and I know have lost clients
- Pros: Bikram is hot any studio you go to...and it's extra hot
- Cons: It's over crowded at times and the headsets really gotta go
Yall are missing the point!

It's unfortunate that the power of negativity outweighs positivity as shown by the lengthy tirades below. A true yogi would dismiss a poor experience and move on, but to publicly slander defies everything that Bikram and I'm sure many other camps of Yoga preach. After a few tries at other studies I discovered Bikram. I've been coming to this studio for the last year or so and have nothing to say but good things.
Yes, it's cramped at times.
People describe disgusting conditions: sweat on neighboring mats, smell (which is exaggerated) and drill sergeant like instructors (which are pale in comparison to Bikram's pithy teaching methods). Seems as though there are much higher standards for a suitable yoga environment out there (I saw wood floors, better ventilation, etc). These additions would be nice, but not necessary. I think yall are missing the point. These gripes shouldn't matter. The goal of Bikram yoga is to become one with yourself, to dismiss external influences on your practice, and to see/feel/be your reflection in the mirror. It takes time to achieve this focus, but it's absolutely freeing once one does.
It's Bikram - It's hot, sweaty, cramped, and instructors are there to help you be your own coach. It's realigned my spine, helped my breathing, restored a sense of balance, and provided much needed stress release.

Best move I've ever made towards bettering my health

I'm saddened to see the negative comments. The class does move rapidly from posture to posture, and, well, it's about 115 degrees and 50% humidity. Yea.. people sweat like nuts in the class, and the instructors have a duty of care to maintain the progression of the class.
I've been going here for 4 years, and consider Bikram yoga at this studio the one of the best moves I've made in my life towards my overall health. There is no way I can get this level of workout on my own.. The staff and instructors do a great job. I've been here hundreds of times and only ever observed great care and concern for the facility and the students.
