Editorial Review for Oishii Too Sushi Bar – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
With more seating than the original Chestnut Hill location, Oishii Too is better for parties of four or more looking to enjoy gourmet sushi. Those seated at the sushi bar find themselves face-to-fish, watching expert hands slice and roll fresh, top-quality maki and sashimi. Beyond the raw stuff, offerings include soups, tempura and teriyaki entrees.

I joined the forum just so I could comment on how fantastic our dining experience was tonight at Oishii Too in Sudbury. I felt I needed to add my views to those left previously, since they didn't reflect the restaurant I remembered dining at last year. My husband, son and I went to celebrate my son's Graduation. I was worried about not getting seating, so we rushed there at 5:30 pm (Sunday), which was wise; by 6 pm there was a waiting line and we were thankfully enjoying our green tea. The service was friendly and prompt. Although they were busy, we never felt rushed. The highlight , however, was the food - which was beyond fantastic. We tried so many different items, and all were better than we've had: sashimi, maki, miso, salads, nagiri, udon, tempura, una ju, specialty ice cream. Without question, the perfect choice for our celebration. Be forewarned, however, families with children outnumbered adult diners (at one point we counted nine children and thirteen adults, with two active toddlers and parents waiting to be seated in the small space), and while, for the most part, children (and babies) were well-behaved (not to mention a muted television screen at two corners of the sushi bar), it created a noisy, active atmosphere. If you want absolutely wonderful food, arrive early and be willing to accept the potential noisy presence of children - but we all agreed the food was well worth the trade-off and we would simply time our next visit a little more carefully (perhaps a week-night instead of Sunday night). I would highly recommend Oishii Too in Sudbuy!

Pros: Food, Service

Cons: Limited seating, acoustics, lots of children

After confirming on their website that they were open until 9:30, we arrived for dinner at the Sudbury restaurant on Sunday at 8:35 pm. There were two other tables of customers. We ordered sake and miso soup. As we began to peruse the menu for main courses, our waiter told us we needed to hurry, as the kitchen was about to close. We replied that we needed another minute or two to choose, and said we thought they were open til 9:30 (which the sign on their door says as well). We hurriedly ordered a couple of items and continued to look at the list. At this point, the senior chef (he acted like the owner?) came to our table and brusquely said "I hope that's all you want, we're closing the kitchen now." I told him their website and door sign say 9:30 (at this point it was not yet 8:45). With rude attitude, he told me I was wrong. This was a bit much, so I told him we would just pay for our sakes and go elsewhere to eat. We had not yet received our miso. He said no, our food was already being prepared and we had to pay for it. I told him to pack it to go. We paid and will never return. We never did get the soup. By the way, the food was way too fussy, obscuring the fine fresh fish underneath. There is no shortage of good sushi available locally at establishments that care about their customers.
