“love bread fresh out of the freezer.”
“and when they did come, our son drank from a straw, (thank God) because shortly after he started drinking,we noticed that his glass had a huge stress fracture all around it.”
Australian tchotchkes and brews give this quintessentially American restaurant a distinctive Down Under flavor..
In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.
Poltergeist Table #1. Last week we went to the Outback in Hanover MA, where we were seated at what would later be laughingly referrred to by our waitress as "the Poltergeist table"-where "according to my manager, everything can and will go wrong here, we don't know why". We should have run then! No table settings were brought even after we gave our drink and appetizer order; 3 of the drinks came,2 drinks could not be served yet cause they ran out of glasses .and when they did come, our son drank from a straw, (thank God) because shortly after he started drinking,we noticed that his glass had a huge stress fracture all around it. Called the waitress and got "oh, that happens when the glasses are too hot and the ice is too cold." What I needed that night was a Physics refresher...oh yeah. The appetizer plates came ,hot, wet and in 2 cases spotted with something black and crusty, and the napkins and silverware came after we finished our Buffalo wings. We were served a lovely crunchy loaf of bread that was still frozen. I love bread fresh out of the freezer. My family begged to leave right then and there, but I said no, we already ordered and I didn't want to cause a scene. My husband's salad came with a couple of nasty tomatoes & soggy croutons-2 orders of burgers came over-cooked, which at this point was a minor blessing-at least they wouldn't get sick. My steak came with a nice piece of steak, a salty stuffed baked potato and the best green beans I never saw. At least our server had a sense of humor though; when my husband and son asked for a bottle of ketchup, they were served by 2 servers carrying 5 bowls of ketchup-ha ha ha! -will this be enough?" Oh honey, it was more than enough. All we ever received from this girl was giggles, aggravating attempts at commiseration when we spoke with her.And the check, she did not forget to bring that and run like hell. Their new ad jingle sounds like "Don't Go Outback Tonight" now. I will not go again to the chain with no brain.
