What can i say? Good Parking? – Very excited to go there. Traveled quite a distance based on reviews and menu. Staff was not that warm and welcoming as you might expect although our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. It was uncomfortably cold inside. The food went downhill as the meal progressed from Appetizer, through pasta, entree and desert. Overated for what it offers. Mediocre at best.
Scratch kitchen in the suburbs! What more could you aks for? – For the person who wrote a bad review. I think you should give DellaNonna's another chance. I agree that the hostess, who is also the owner's wife, is a bit surly, but if you can move past that, I think you'll find the food is worth it.
Della's is a scratch kitchen and that is difficult to find in the suburbs admist the TJ McFunksters and other fast food chains. Any time you dine at a scratch kitchen, you need to be cognizant of the fact that the cooks are making your entree from start to finish, nothing is premade or precooked. The food at Della's is worth going back for. I understand your frustration, as I have been there. So I know how disappointing a bad restaurant experience can be. However, I know most of the servers at Della's and all of them are on top of their game. I also know the owners have transitioned through a lot of cooks who have proven to be unrealiable - there is a reason Chef Ken DeFazio (a.k.a. Kenny) continues to work the Line - he has to because talented, reliable, commited cooks are hard to come by, especially in the suburbs. Kenny cares about his food and he cares about the experience people have in his restaurant. I know because I used to work for him as his garde manger and then "acting" pastry chef. I would bet that if he read your review, he would be upset. Additionally , he would want to make it up to you because that is Kenny's style. I have seen him go above and beyond to make a patron happy. Kenny isn't some pretentious ego chef, he is a very humble guy from humble blue collar roots -- nothing was handed to him. He had to work for everything he has.
I think you should give Della's another try and if the 2nd time around your experience is bad, then I'd be happy to eat crow!
Worth the wait... – I haven't even digested yet but I am compelled to tell you that this was simply the most satisfying, the most flavorful meal I have had in years. There was a bit of a wait but better to see a thriving and full restaurant than a lifeless and empty one. It was worth the wait! The service was extraordinary, very pleasant and professional. My steak was cooked perfectly and I am hard to please when it comes to my beef. My wife had the Bolognese, which I tried, and it was exceptional. Our dessert gelato was amazing, one taste and I was back in Rome. We will be recommending della Nonna to our friends and family!
Best Eggplant, Pizza, Veal...Just plain outstanding experience – I visited Trattoria Della Nonna on Thursday night, February 12. Although it was my first experience at this little Mansfield eatery, it will by no means be my last. Perusing the numerous reviews on this site, I was shocked to see one criticizing the food and service! Our experience was nothing less than outstanding!
First, my girlfriend and I ordered both the grilled pizza and eggplant appetizers. The pizza was thin-crust perfection, easily the best grilled pizza I've ever eaten in my 31 years on this planet. The eggplant was a balance of goat cheese and lemon bliss, with spinach and proscioutto thrown in for good measure. I then ordered the Veal Chop; all I have to say is Wow! This dish is something to behold. Talk about melt in your mouth goodness. I will be back just for the chop! My girlfriend was going traditional and ordered the bolognese. I am going to go out on a limb here and tell the chef/owner to simply bottle up this sauce and sell it. I'd be the first one in line to invest!
I can't believe someone would negatively criticize this restaurant. Clearly the last reviewer didn't eat in the same restaurant that we did. The hostess was cordial and greeted us with a smile. The service was uniformly excellent. Our server recommended a perfect red wine counterpart to my Veal Chop. Then, the owner came over to ensure that everything was okay. Top to bottom, this trattoria is clearly the hidden gem of Mass. Don't listen to the sour reviewer above. Whenever someone complains that a restaurant doesn't offer a "complimentary drink/food", it is obvious they are only looking for one thing: A free meal! And since they didn't get it, they are upset.
Don't hesitate to visit the best restaurant this side of the North End. You will NOT be disappointed.
Very Disappointing – We went here for my Grandmother's 80th Birthday on Saturday night and it was so disappointing! The hostess was rude and the service was awful! After waiting almost an hour for our meal only five of the seven dinners we ordered were delivered together, and my husbands was over cooked. The other two finally came when everyone else was half done. We didn't have any appetizers, or dessert and the meal was $430 for 7 people. The service was awful and completely rushed. When my aunt tried to order a glass of wine at the end of dinner the server said "another party is waiting for this table"! Are you kidding me?- we won't be back!! It's too bad because the atmosphere is cute and there aren't too many places to go in the area. To top it off I tried to call on Tuesday (the next day they were open) to share my disappointing experience with the owner & they did nothing but make excuses. Unbelievable! I've worked in the restaurant industry and may have considered giving it one more chance if they even offered a complementary drink, dessert, or anything to show they cared!!
To die for!!! – My husband and I visited Trattoria Della Nonna for the first time Friday night at the suggestion of some friends. The atmosphere and warm greeting was unexpected on a busy weekend evening. We were seated and attended to as though we were the only couple in the restaurant, and after devouring every piece of the veal chop stuffed with prosciutto, fontina cheese, and fresh spinach I couldn't stop myself from helping myself to some of my husband's lamb loin chops glazed with a port wine reduction.
On a prime night in one of the best restaurants we have visited, we were able to have an intimate experience while enjoying an A+ meal. I would recommend it to any couple or family looking for a gourmet, four-star dinner with that at-home feel, and look forward to the next time I get to experience the delight that is Trattoria Della Nonna.
Good food – I enjoyed there food! the cook is great but the hostess who was drinking the whole night with a little coffee mixed in was very load and sometimes rude and had a yelling match over the phone durring my dinner I found it very unprofessional and couldnt wait to leave!
Out of this World! – Trattoria di Nonna is Out of This World! It gives new meaning to Italian dining. Their red sauce (gravy) is perhaps the best I've tasted. Try the pizza for a shared appetizer. It's a delicacy. The entres give new meaning to "indescribeably delicious"! The staff is great, as is the service. If this were located in downtown Boston or Providence, walk-ins would be impossible. It's out of the way if you're not on '95, but we came from Marshfield & it was worth every minute of the drive. We'll be back.
Trattoria is a REAL treat – My wife and I enjoy dining out and the Trattoria Del La Nonna is one of our favorites. The food is fantastic, the service professional but friendly. Simply put, we both love it!.
The menu changes often and they have a good wine selection. The atmosphere is fairly romantic but is is good for a get-together with friends. Get a sitter for the kids, though I have seen kids there.
I have only one complaint - they're closed Sunday and Monday!
