Great date spot. Small cozy, romantic and delicious food! The waitresses are amazingly helpful and the chefs are genius. We were fortunate to meet them during our dinner. What cuties they are!! Can't wait to go back and try some more homemade pasta! Food was reasonably priced and great wine list!!

wonderful pastas, warm atmosphere, gracious staff. I ate dinner here for the first time a few weeks ago and had a lovely experience. The space is wonderful- very European, brick walls, candles. We were seated at a table by the open window, so we could watch the world go by as we talked and ate. They even brought us complimentary glasses of prosecco as soon as we were seated- very welcoming. We had a *delicious* bruschetta to start: toasts with parmesan and arugula and the freshest tomatoes and artichoke hearts in a light vinaigrette. As entrees, my friend had a baked pasta dish in a tomato sauce (excellent), and I had black linguine (ink? I can't remember what sort of pasta) with scallops and a light cream sauce. Delicious! The wine list is pricey, but the house chianti is wonderful and more affordable. The staff were great and I will definitely return.

Why bother making a reservation?. With the larger Monica's under renovation, we decided Trattoria di Monica's would suffice. Unfortunately for us, it did not. Our party of 3 had an 8pm reservation. On a very cold evening, we arrived a couple minutes early to the tiny waiting area enclosed by velvet drapes, closing us in to the drafty door waiting with another party of 3. When the other party was seated we were told it would be "a few" minutes and if we would like a drink...assuming their line would be true, we politely declined assuming we'd be seated momentarily. After that one brief exchange, we were not addressed again until we checked to find out how much longer it would be. In the meantime, a couple parties of two walked in without a reservation and sat right down. We finally sat at 9pm...over an hour after we arrived. Not until we complained were we given an apology and only after we had ordered 2 appetizers that they rather than comp one of those, proceeded to give us another one "on the house" as their apology. We were very disappointed with the service, but the food was as great as the larger restuarant.

Only Go Here if you Want to be Yelled at!. We made a 8:00 reservation beforehand, only to be made to wait 25 minutes. We then received our entrees in 15 minute intervals. We were there for a birthday party and the birthday girl didn't get her pizza until the very end. When the bill arrived we wanted to pay the gratuity in cash, but were told we had to leave 20% on the credit card. When we explained we wanted to leave it in cash - the chef came out and yelled at us saying we had been a problem from the beginning - we had never once complained about being seated late or receiving our food late. Another chef then came out and yelled at us in front of everyone - only to have the waitress come out and personally apologize for the chefs behavior. The food and chefs were horrible. BTW, meatballs and spaghetti tasted horrible!

Great Fresh Pastas, charming place. Monica's Trattoria serves almost the exact same food as the bigger, swankier Monica's Restaurant on Richmond. Though the atmosphere here is more casual and relaxed with family art on the walls. It is tiny with at most 10 tables. This may bother some but I like the small restaurants in the North End. They generally do not take reservations for peak times so you may have to wait but it is worth it. The fresh pastas are excellent. Their list of daily specials is full of mouth-watering temptations. House chianti is good and reasonable. I recommend this to anyone looking for unpretentious homemade Italian.
