WORST DOG SERVICES IN BOSTON. If you at all love you pet, Doggie Day on Tremont and its associated businesses are a waste. They never anwer their phone, their e-mail and voicemail is always full, and service is non-existent. This is a travesty of a business operation!
Animal neglect and unauthorized credit charges.
Rob put on quite a show to reel us in when I first started using doggie day. He claimed to love animals, especially his own dogs, and that he performs background checks on employees and spot checks to make sure their visits are of appropriate length.
I am in a line of work that allows me to conduct my own background checks as well, so I can tell you that he does not, in fact, do this.
Many of the employees really do love animals. But Rob assigns them up to 25 appointments per day, making it impossible for them to spend an adequate amount of time with the animals.
Rob, meanwhile, keeps "his" dogs at the doggie day facility at night. They get no excercise, and neither do any of the dogs who are relegated to the so-called playcenter, a small room where dogs of different sizes and breeds are inappropriately mixed. I would ask any pet owner to request to see the inside of that room. Doggie Day has a policy not to allow this, and I question why and what they are hiding.
Doggie Day does NOT do spot checks to make sure employees are visiting dogs for the amount of time they are supposed to. In fact the very idea of the owner of Doggie Day being the one to keep his employees in check is laughable. It's the other way around.
The employees care, but if you get a petcam like I did you'll see that their visits are very short, and the reason is that they simply have too many appointments.
Rob couldn't care less how many minutes per day those dogs are walked. The poor workers -- they care. You'll often find them walking the streets of the south end well after business hours -- they don't get paid overtime by the way, in violation of labor laws. They often do work above and beyond what Rob even knows about, staying overnight at homes where dogs are left alone by neglectful owners who think it's ok to have a visit at night and a visit in the morning while they're away from home.
All Rob cares about is his wallet. If you're a member of Doggie Day you should check your credit cards for unauthorized charges. There were many on mine until I rejected them.
The labor department, and animal control inspectors should shut down this horrific facility.
If you're looking for a local dog walker, I urge you to go to your local dog park and talk to pet owners there about who they use. There are many many reputable dog walkers in the area, and there's no need to entrust your beloved pet to such a sketchy owner and facility. Buyer beware.

Simply put, the numerous vet bills caused by their services and the physical pain and suffering inflicted to our Blond Lab are the reasons for me writing this review. Eye bites, Nose bites, puncture wound, leg gashed, ear bites. The final straw, our pet ingested chemical cleaning solution on their watch. We thought he was having a seizer. Our dog had to be rushed to Angel Memorial.
Beyond ridiculous. Now that I am actually typing this, I now realize how our dear pet was so poorly treated. I should have reported them to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the City of Boston.
Try to call them? Forget it. A merry go round of buttons and auto dials. I had to call their flower shop to sneak in a call from the back door.
Not a good situation at all. I feel bad for poor helpless pets who cannot talk about their abuse. In addition, all this for $145.00 a week!
I share this with you so that your pet will not have to suffer as our pet did in spite of the big bucks they charge. I was with them for 2 years, and $17,200.00 later I FINALLY woke up!
If the above happened to me, it is very very likely it has happen to others. Do not be fooled by the retail front, the real negligence happens in the back!
Solution: Keep your dog home and hire a pet walker. It is cheaper and safer.
9 months later.
There services was ok. My main grip is I moved and cancelled my membership in Nov of 07. Jan feb and march they debt my credit card for services. I complained they apologized said they would send me a check.
Every month since I've called trying to get my money back, to know avail. It is now Sept. and nothing, no call no apologies nothing. Bad Business. However the actually services and convience is good. I especially liked when I went on vacation they walked my dogs and gave meds. However when they went to doggie day care often times they smelled like dog waste and everthing else, which led me to beleive they didn't clean the facility.
Coming from a former employee, PLEASE AVOID.
I just registered on here just to post this review, just like I did on Yelp today. I have no agenda, I walked out of this job on my own free will. I am anonymous because I don't want the possibility of them harassing me via whatever information they have on file for me. I worked here for about 4 months, much longer than I should have. If I did not feel comfortable bringing my dog to work with me, you shouldn't feel comfortable spending $40 a day for this service.
Dogs were supposed to be walked, every hour and a half. Since there was no outside area this would allow them to go and do their business outside. Barely any dogs ever got walked. Sometimes none at all. We were understaffed the entire time I worked there. This meant all the dogs did their business inside. Inside rooms with air vents that did not work. Inside two tiny (with the amount of dogs crammed into them) rooms. This waste then stayed stagnant in a tiny wastebasket in the room the entire day. There were a lot of dogs that had awful runny excrement on a daily basis. Who cares about air quality, we have flat screen high definition TVs in each room!
Dogs were supposed to be evaluated for temperament. I worked over 40 hours a week. I saw many dogs that clearly were not tested for temperament. There were points were I was breaking up 2-3 fights every day, mostly due to the fact that they didn't want to kick high paying customers out. There was no formal training on how to break up fights, or really how to do anything at all. The manager for the Pet Shop Girls and Rob told us:
1. Pin the dog by the neck on the ground (Just like Ceasar! Works magic!)
2. Stick your finger up the dog's butt in the middle of the fight (I am absolutely serious)
Oh and that 15 dog per person ration? More like 30+ per person. By yourself.
We signed up for their 6 week puppy program (crate-training w/ walks 3x a day), full of high hopes. Doggie Day was a huge disappointment - we had problems with them from the start and things only got worse. TWICE they simply failed to show up at all - leaving my 4 month old puppy alone in his crate for 9+ hours straight. No one even called to let us know, or my husband or I could have at least gone home from work to save him. They didn't even know he'd been abondoned until we called them out on it.
To be fair, their customer service reps could not have been nicer and more apologetic, but they couldn't undo what had been done. We paid a lot of money for the program, and got zero piece of mind. I came home everyday dreading what I'd find. They also showed up multiple hours late numerous times, often failed to leave notes as promised, etc. we finally gave up, fired them and found a new service. I wish their actual reliability was on par with their kind customer service attitude.
I'm glad that some users have had positive experiences with them and wish I could say the same thing - for my dog's sake.
My dog loves it here!. Like one of the other reviewers on this site, I, too, signed up just to write this. I have used DoggieDay care with in-home pick up and drop off for the past 6 months for my one-year old labradoodle. To preface this I should confess I am one of those crazed dog owners who wants my dog to be blissfully happy all of the time. I am nuts about him. So I looked into a lot of daycares prior to selecting Doggie Day. I have had almost exclusively positive experiences with this company (my one gripe being their phone system and the maze of automated options and sometimes very long hold times). The facility is clean. The dogs all seem happy. The clientele one meets in the store-front portion of the facility is clearly high-end and seem to spend a lot of time with and money on their dogs. The employees/dog handlers appear to really love the animals. I can watch my dog on the doggie day webcam from home or office, so I can see that he is there, he's safe and he is playing happily. I have never had any issues with my dog getting picked up or dropped off on time. I can schedule his grooming to be taken care of right on site (and they do a really nice job). He arrives home at night tired out and, after 6 months of going to daycare, he is a calmer and more obedient dog. The other factor that is important to me is that I live in Boston, so if something ever happend, some emergency arose, I feel more comfortable having my dog a 5 minute drive from me (verus some other day cares out in the suburbs which can take ages to get to from downtown, southend or backbay in traffic or rush hour).
I'll never use DoggieDay again.

I tried and tried to update my feeding instructions via the DoggieDay Web page, but could never get it to work. So I rode my motorcycle all the way downtown to take written instructions for someone to input manually.
Before my trip away I left another copy of the very detailed instructions (we had an elderly sick cat who was doing all right but who needed certain things because of her finickyness and her need to have a lot of calories to keep her strength up) on the kitchen counter, along with all sorts of different food, cat milk, treats, etc. And I emphasized VERY strongly that the cats liked and used one particular water bowl especially, especially the sick cat. That bowl was bone dry when I got home.
I arrived home to find all but one water dish empty and barely any of the food used. None of the cat milk or treats had been used. The instruction sheet I left on the counter with the food had been set aside across the kitchen.
It turns out that the caretaker had just gone from the woefully outdated feeding instructions from long before, from the outdated pre-printed instructions on their visit cards. I think that anyone concerned with doing any more than the absolute least possible would've seen that those old instructions didn't match up at all with the various kinds of foods I'd left out. I think the caretaker's excuse was a pitiful cop-out and I'm still mad about that whole situation, even a couple of years later.
To me a company is only as good as its weakest employee, so I threw out the baby (DoggieDay) with the bathwater (the bad experience with the particular employee) in this case.
Compromised my cats' health!. I have been using Doggie Day pet service for five years now. In the past, there have been little slip-ups (e.g. not showing up at exactly the right time, forgetting to re-set the alarm), but these were forgivable and minor mistakes. HOWEVER, upon returning from Christmas break and finding both my cats locked in the bathroom, I now feel compelled to write this review to discourage any person who wants humane and safe service for their animal to look elsewhere. My cats, for whatever reason, were locked in the bathroom and there was about 4-5 days of urine and feces on the floor. Our apartment wreaked of cat urine, their food was crusted over and had not been touched in days (not to mention less than half of the food cans had been used) and the litter spray that normally is all over the floor when we've been away for >1 week was not present. All these signs summate to suggest that our cats had been in that bathroom for 4-5 days without water or food. They are still throwing up 2 days later. The most concerning part was that the DD feeders had visited daily for these 8 days, and left report cards everyday. They had just failed to ensure that my cats were actually alive! While they were apologetic, we immediately demanded a refund and picked up our house key the next day, never to use their service again. I would strongly encourage pet owners to think twice about using DD service. The friendliness of the owner and one of the managers does not excuse the negligent manner in which my cats were cared for. Beware.
The best pet service I've ever used!. I am another pet owner who can't believe the things that have been written so negatively about this company. I've spent many minutes, if not hours in their store, and I've been impressed every time I go there. The staff is extremely helpful, the place is immaculate, and the dogs all seem happy. I've even watched the dog walkers come in and out of the place, and I have always been impressed with the fact that they are all in uniform, and all pleasant with everyone that they encounter. Certainly a lot different than the people I see on the street in ragged clothes trying to hold onto 6 or eight dogs at a time! My dog has been in the care of DoggieDay for over two years, both using the in home service as the Playcenter, and there has never been an issue with his care. Sure, there are times when there has been a billing issue, but I don't think that there's a company that I've done business with in my entire life that this sort of thing hasn't happened with. They always take care of the problems, and seem to continuously look for ways to improve the serv ice. According to the owners, who I think are great people, they do over 40,000 visits a year, so the fact that I see a handful of negative remarks certainly is not indicitive of the way this company does business on a large scale. I hope DoggieDay stays around for as long as I have a pet. I wouldn't trust my baby to anyone else.
