Great First Date menu.
Being a waitress, myself, I am always very observant of any restaurant I walk into, so when 224 was recommended to me by another waitress, I decided I should try it. The place is tucked in Dorchester just over the tracks (I-93) from Southie, which makes it easily accessible from any direction. We were greeted immediately by the host/bartender and seated at a perfectly set table with a lit candle. There were tables to fit every dining experience (booths, large tables, two tops, and there's a bar), and although there is a high wall separating the kitchen, you can see the cooks on the line (which I personally like). But it is definitely not intrusive to your dinner. The waitstaff was attentive but not annoying, and had no problem offering his recommendations of which appetizer/main course would be best for our taste. The menu is not too large, so you don't have to take a long time deciding, but it has everything from seafood to steak to lamb to salads to pasta. Although it was not a first date for me and my BF, it would be a great place for one.

My Favorite Restaurant In Boston!!!.
I Love, Love, Love this place!!!
To begin the place just feels cozy to me.
The bar is always welcoming with its complimentary olives and outstanding drinks!!! The main area features an open kitchen (never too loud) and a great view out to the streetsnowy nights are the best!!!
Oh and the food.the calamari appetizer is the best Ive ever had and the homemade humus is just great. My favorite item on the menu is the pumpkin tortellini in a blue cheese cream sauce topped with reduced spinach.its AMAZING!!! Truth is Ive brought so many people to the 224 and never has anyone not loved what they ordered!!!

Seated promptly, open kitchen which adds to ambiance. Started with flank steak appetizer, deliciously rare slices of cool steak over greens with focassia bread w/a wonderful cheese topping. Then tried a caesar salad; freshly made, just enough garlic and anchoves exactly how we asked for it. Main course statler chicken w/two great sauces on the side just as we requested one a molasses and one a barbeque, the plate was beautifully presented with vegetables cooked just enough along with garlic mashed potatoes and corn ravioli. The portions are generous. Service here is always attentive; the main dining room is non smoking. You can be seated in the bar area which allows smoking and has a few tables for dining as well. The chef here is a realy master. The owners of the restaurant are always on hand and courteously check to see how their guests are enjoying.
