Congenial Harvard Square pub with reputable food, hearty pints and a clubby touch of class..
Search no further for the proverbial "clean, well-lighted place." Huge front windows (swung wide in warm weather) and a greenhouse roof on the second level flood the pub with daylight; an amber glow radiates at night. Downstairs splits into a convivial bar and a narrow dining room. The upstairs lounge sprawls around the stairwell with a second bar, a scattering of tables and cozy couches along the walls. Those who come solely for drinks are rewarded with a solid beer selection and personable bartenders.
Best buys are the refined bar food--fish and chips, sandwiches, burgers--from the "late lunch" menu. More ambitious entrees like sea scallops with oyster mushrooms, bacon and potatoes are executed with finesse. The menu has all the current culinary-college touches (chickpea fries, braised greens, baby artichokes, Cuban spices) without the preciousness. Desserts are gooey, satisfying and familiar--fallen chocolate souffle, creme brulee, fruit cobbler.
shithole. so, daedelus maintains one of the rudest, meanest bartenders in the united states. i hate this restaurant/bar, and I promise that harvard students will all eventually realize how crappy it is.
Straight From Ireland Best In Cambridge. We came to boston 3 years ago. Thats about around the time Daedalus opened. So 3 years ago we had our first experience there. Simply Perfect! We've must of gone there almost 100 times in 3 years. One of the only places where the owners are truely fiendly with the costomers. The menu changes seasonal and always is top notch. I highly recommend an evening at Daedalus. Destined to be a true Gem. Cheers to the Owners. It how most restuarant owners should treat there costomers.
sexy, sultry, smooth. Harvard Square has been in need of a place like this for quite some time. The upstairs room is dimly lit and very chic. A very nice bartender guided us through the menu to find some real gems. Calamari is impeccably done, as was a risotto special that night. Drinks were great and competitively priced (best cosmopoitan I've had yet!)
Harvard Watering Hole. One of Harvard Square's unofficial meat markets, this bar serves overpriced food, but is one of the better watering holes in the area, if you desire to impress a date, or find one for the evening.
Fly away. This is a very cozy romantic spot. It has two floors. The atmosphere is amazing--dark but with the flicker of some scattered candles on the tables. The desserts are out-of-this-world. The upstairs has a greenhouse-like-roof perfect for looking at the Cambridge sky. It is trendy...but not too crowded. It's close to Harvard Sq., but not overly close. The bar area is also very nice.
