“Wonderful, cozy, perfect location!”
“The dogs are great and very friendly (although I would not leave your toast unattended, if I were you..)”
“The owners were very friendly and the dogs made it feel more like home.”
We live a few blocks from the Taylor house and the 6, yea count em, 6 grandparents have stayed there numerous times since my son was born 3 yrs ago. It's perfect for everyone- they get here own room and don have to squeeze into our tiny tiny 2 bedroom condo and we don't have to play host. Dave is accomodating of their needs - whether they are renting a room or renting the house across the street. Daryl's breakfast is always amazing and home made. We're always bummed when they are booked!
Having grown up in Jamaica Plain and no longer able to stay where I lived, I chose the Taylor B&B for a return trip to my town. A lot of work has gone into fixing this place and the owners spared nothing to bring this 1800's home back to its former glory. It was clean, located in a nice section of a residential area I was familiar with, breakfast was unusual and tasty, (no plastic bread or instant coffee), bed was comfortable, room was quiet, guests were interesting, small but lovely garden area with a wide variety of carefully chosen plants. They have concerts on occasion. The lighting in the hallway was a little too somber for my taste, but we could see well. It was a delightful two night stay.
This old mansion has been nicely restored appropriately for its period. Lots of privacy, great breakfasts included, free parking. It is an easy walk to Jamaica Plain commercial area, or Jamaica Pond. There are lots of good restaurants and pubs in Jamaica Plain.
Great place to stay. We were visiting colleges and decided to add a few more days to enjoy Boston. With a family of 5 2 hotel rooms never seem to work out and cost a fortune. This place was great. We rented the 3 bedrooms on the 3rd floor - which also included a sitting room which had a TV, refrig., coffee pot, and microwave. Overall we had a great time. Great restaurants were up the block. The area is safe and over the 5 days we never moved the car. The walk to the T or subway was about 10 minutes. And then to get to most areas of the Freedom trail was a 20 minute train ride. Daryl, could always be counted on to have a great breakfast waiting in the morning for all guests to enjoy. Rooms were very clean and much to our surprise room service tidied up each day while we were out site seeing. We would definitely go back.
A lovely B&B, most courteous and helpful hosts, excellent breakfast, ideally situated, easy to find, in a lively neighborhood (nice restaurants and shops). Highly recommended. We really enjoyed our stay.
Beautifully restored Victorian mansion.
The downstairs is a series of common rooms. There is the eating area, where truly excellent breakfasts are served, and several function rooms that are available for rental and/or community use. One has a piano, and one has a harpsichord. We were there for a baby shower in the afternoon, and we had full run of the downstairs.
There are well-tended gardens surrounding the house.
The rooms are upstairs. We have stayed at Taylor House twice, and each room was lovely and private.
There is plenty of free parking, both in the spacious driveway and on the cul-de-sac that is right outside.
Absolutely loved staying at the Taylor House. Fully restored to it's original beauty with all the modern upgrades. No doubt every detail was attended to in the design of this place. The art through out is stunning and engaging. The breakfast was exceptional (right out of the oven egg and vegetable casserole, crumb cake, fresh seasonal fruits and high quality coffee). The best part was that I slept like a baby on a very comfortable bed. Tucked away on a quiet side street and near to all, I almost forgot I was in a city. I highly recommend the Taylor House and look forward to staying there again during future visits to Boston.
We have been staying at Taylor House for many years and it's always very pleasant. We brought our daughters one year and stayed in the top floor suite in their adjacent house. It was perfect. Usually we stay in the main house. Jamaica Pond is at the end of their beautiful street and is good for walking or running. It's the perfect location for us with good transit to Boston. Jamaica Plain has interesting local shops and restaurants, and is close to Arnold Arboretum. We look forward to the now familiar warmth and hospitality that is Taylor House. Dave and Daryl are the always affable, and capable, owners. Their approach makes for a quiet and convivial atmosphere that we like. The excellent breakfast is prepared by Daryl, a talented chef. We take pleasure seeing the contemporary art and ceramics displayed throughout the house. On our most recent trip, our arrival was on a cool autumn evening. A choral group was rehearsing in the large Drawing Room. We thought we had arrived in Heaven. It was a truly magical welcome to a very special place.
What a wonderful, friendly place. Right
down to Jamie, the sweet potato eating golden retriever. We had a great stay and breakfast was amazing!
This beautiful old house has been tastefully and lovingly restored to it's full glory and it was a real treat to stay here. Thanks Daryl and Dave! We'll be back :)
I spent a month in Jamaica Plain, staying in the one br apartment that is part of Taylor House. The hosts, Dave and Dwight, were the best imaginable. I arrived the day of the blizzard, and left the day after the last nor'easter. I was able to easily walk into JP, for shopping and dining. There is a full breakfast every morning in the B&B. The apartment is clean, and the kitchen has oven, microwave, frig, and coffee pot. Stocked with all utensils. The apt has free WiFi, a nice TV with all channels, dining table, comfortable chairs, separate bedroom and bath, all contained in the apt. When the power went out during the blizzard, the generator in the main house gave all the neighbors a comfortable place to meet and have coffee. The B&B opens its doors to the neighborhood in such times.
